Audi vs Tree

My cousin sent me these and they definitely got my attention. I've heard about "wrapping a car around a tree" but this is the first time I've ever seen any pictures of anything like this.

My cousin sent this to me as a reminder to play safe. With these pictures, I guess I can't argue.

Hope this isn't a repost. New to me.

Question: Why does it look like the front driver's airbag didn't deploy?

Would it deploy from a side impact?

Good point. I looked at those pics again. I saw the front all fucked up and didn't realize it was from the engine being thrown from the car.

There are pics of a red VW that did exactly the same thing. The pics look almost identical only the car was red.

Has anyone died in a 1G TL accident? That was before our cars had side airbags and stuff.
