Audi A5??
So I'm currently considereing buying a new car. I really would like a S5 but even used they're way out of my price range. I looked into the Audi A5 instead. Used of course and definetly something with the S Line Package. Has anyone looked into this car also? Maintence cost etc.? I'm just interested to get everyones take on the car.

The A5 is a good car. The 2.0T pulls pretty well for a car with AWD. An APR flash should get you to 250/250 for a few hundred bucks too.
There is a reason the A5/S5 hold their value so well. They are great cars.
I would take an A5 in a heartbeat.

Love them and would get one in a heartbeat. Personally I'd get the 2.0T and chip it. Great performance and killer gas mileage. We used to have a B7 A4 2.0T and that car was just fantastic and trouble-free for our entire ownership.
You will pay more for maintenance once you get out of the warranty period compared to a Japanese brand, but that's pretty standard with German cars. Not a big deal to me... you'll have to decide if it matters to you.

No denying they're incredibly sexy looking cars. And as charliemike mentioned, lots of performance upgrades available with the 2.0T.

They discontinued the 3.2 a year or so ago - but you could definitely find them used.
I love the A5 - was looking at that or a G37 before I found out my wife was pregnant. Then I got the ultimate Honda "grown up" fan boy SUV - the MDX.
Please share pictures! I might look at a used A5 when my TL reaches 150k

From what I read, they're quite reliable.
I test drove the 2.0T last summer, and I remember being taken back how hard it pulled with 3 people in the car (me, salesman, and friend in the tiny cramped backseats.) The interior was solid, and materials used were good, better than my TSX. I did not test drive the sport trim model, so I won't comment on that.
Hell, the only gripe I would have about this car is probably the backseats...almost useless if you're taller than 5'6.

The 3.2 has a better exhaust note once a after market exhaust is installed. That's why I really wanted a 3.2
The APR flash will net you much more than 250 tq, but it's not much on the hp. Of course these numbers are at the crank, but they're still impressive for just a tune. 93 octane bumps each up just a little bit.

My friend owns a shop and works on then and he said they have a lot of issues but if you have money to spend on maintenance than that might be a different story. Also I know a guy that works for a towing company and he said the most cars he tows from roadside breakdowns are vw's and audi's and a lot of them are new models.

It's definitely worth it. I have it on my B7 Avant. Unfortunately the tune on the 2.0T in the B7 only nets me 273ft-lb on 91 octane. The upgrades Audi made to the motor for the B8 are why APR can get it above 300 with just a tune IIRC. And from time to time, APR has a deal where you pay the price for a single tune and you get to choose 4 tunes and you get all the optional features. That's what I did and I got stock tune, 91, 93 and valet and the throttle body adaptation, fault code erase and anti-theft features for $599. In fact they have the sale going on right now till August 3rd (http://www.goapr.com/news/2012/07/02...to-august-3rd/).
Also look into the stasis tune. It won't net you as much power as the APR tune will, but they have performed studies to put their tune at a point that won't 'jeopardize' the reliability of the car in the long run. I"m actually considering downgrading my tune to it, but need to give it more thought.
There are other simple things you can do as well like upgrading to a HFC, upgrading mounts that make a world of difference and they are relatively cheap as well. I just upgraded the snub mount on my Avant. Part cost $40, had the dealer install it yesterday while I was getting my 35K service done. I can't believe how much easier it is to shift into gears now because of that simple part.
Yes the A5 is underpowered, but there is a lot you can do, for very cheap to get it to perform MUCH better.

The A5/S5s are also Gran Turismos and not sports cars. They aren't designed to do 7:22s around the 'Ring.
So when people derisively call them slow, I don't think they understand the purpose of the execution Audi put into the car.
Now, the RS5 is a different story. They screwed up on that one. It should have had the 4.0T from the S8 in it and not what amounts to two Civic Si engines.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as to say the S5 isn't a sports car. But overall, I do agree with you.

Gran Turismos (luxury first, performance second): Audi A5/S5, Jaguar XK, MB C-class coupe
Sports Cars (performance first, luxury second): 911/Cayman, CTS-V coupe
Sorta does both pretty well: M3
It's 100% subjective but that's my logic.

Would love to get the tune for my S4, but my priorities have changed.
