Audi A4's

How are they? I really like the styling of the 04-05's as well as the 06-07's and they are cheap used!

I know a couple of you have had them, just curious what you have to say as far as which engine is better (2.0/3.2) and possible maint. issues.

thanks dudes!

from what I undestand the 1.8/2.0 engines can be made fast very easily. I think the interiors are sexy! but stock they are very slow. If you just drive around and don't really car their are excellent deals to be had. I think their reliability has increased tremendously as well.
I would buy one if i was in the market for a car like that.

stay away from the turbo'd ones if your looking for reliability. I've been looking for an engine for my 99 hard to find for a good price.

From what I know, the A4's have had reliability issues.... especially the turbo models.

I'd personally stay away from the pre-2004 turbo models.... quite a few engine and/or electrical problems from what I've heard and read. It seems the 2004+ models have improved a bit in the reliability department though.

Oh, and they're expensive to own too.

MS6s were damn good deals even when new. My favorite is that segment is the Legacy GT though

True enough but, my experience with Subaru dealerships is that they are unwilling to budge on price. I wont even go into how unjustifiably elitist some Suby dealers come across as. (I still cannot get over the fact that the last interation of the Spec B stickered for about the same as a TL w/Navi.)

Back on topic, my 15 y/o daughter wants a used A4 as her first car but I am fairly reluctant to get a used German car. I will likely steer her towards a used TSX when the time comes in a couple of years.

I compared the A4 1.8T to the TL and G35C back in 2004 when I was looking at cars. The A4 is slow. It handles pretty well since it's AWD and is better balanced than the TL. But it left me pretty unenthused. The drive felt bloated and the interior looked bland. I liked the exterior OK but other than that, meh. Plus, it was more expensive than the TL. And then there's the reliability of Audi.

one thing i loved in my audi a4 was the turn radius it felt like it can turn around in one spot. TL i don't even want to get in to it.

My granddad has an A6 on it with almost 110k miles on it and going strong. Mechanically the car has been fine but he did have the extended warranty and it was a very good move and paided for itself due to electronic failures. He says hes going to keep it till it starts giving him a lot of problems. Something he does say he hates however is getting it serviced. He says that the cost to service the car is through the roof and in fact while he has enjoyed the car alot of this reason hes not sure he wants another german car. Something to consider though is didnt CR recently rank Audi higher then BMW and Mercedes?
