Anyone seen this car capsule? Interesting

So,

I may be moving into a duplex type situation in July. And one of my main fears is having to park next to some random person in a driveway who is not going to worry about rubbing up against my car with a backpack, swinging into my car door, etc.

Maybe I'm just insanely anal about my cars condition.

Anyway, found this thing somewhat out of boredom:

Made me laugh at first and then it dawned on me that this is an absolutely awesomely obnoxious idea.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about these? I'm seriously considering....

I feel some hater is going to slash it if you leave that in your car port.

^^ Wouldn't doubt it. Ouch, for $500 that would seriously suck.

I'm just curious from a quality standpoint. If it does what it's supposed to do.

This one is less obvious: http://www.rickscamaros.com/touchless-car-cover.html

Looks like it could be a tent or something. Would have to take measurements of the car to make sure that it would fit OK.

Just don't want anything happening to my pretty pearl paint =[

Seriously OP, those options aren't any more protective than a car cover.

You'll probably damage your paint more putting them over the car.

Just get full coverage insurance and make sure your fellow duplexers know the deal.

I think it's a fantastic idea, might do it myself.

Only worry is that you'd have to fold it up when you're not using it, otherwise it might get stolen or blown away in the wind, etc.

You're looking to keep your TSX(your DD), in one of these? These are intended for vehicles that are collectible and aren't driven on a daily basis. Using one of these on a daily basis seems tedious and borderline absurd.

You could probably build something like this with 2x4s and a roll of plastic for half the cost. It'd be square, but...

As jayhawk mentioned, these are only used for cars not driven on a regular basis. They are also designed to be used indoors where there is actually little interference from other sources.

It can be difficult and frustrating parking your car outdoors in pre-assigned parking lots, but the best thing you can do is make others aware that you are very fussy about your car. Nothing wrong with mentioning to them that you would appreciate they being careful around your car, and you in term will be careful around theirs.

lol this is hilarious--but why not just use a standard car cover?

if you're parking right in front of your place, why not just get a little surveillance camera mounted to your house. I would think the car cover would just make your car more of a target for the scum bags of the world to mess with. Plus with the camera, you get that added sense of security. Going discreet while protecting your property would be the best bet in my opinion.

I really wouldn't buy this. I am more amused by it and was curious to see if people knew anything about it

^^

I've seen the car capsule before. Interesting concept, but otherwise dumb, in my opinion. Also as others have said, it's meant to be used indoors, and for cars that aren't really driven.

Just go with a car cover, or find a garage or carport in your area that you can park in for added security from the weather.

Talk to ur neighbors and have them put rubber trimming at the end of their door edges and u do the same. Dings are fixable. Scratches, not so much.

my friend has one of these for his vette and fury... they both sit inside these capsules inside the garage... it works well along with the Silicate packets to keep moisture down...

It's OK... you don't have to back down now just b/c some people didn't like the idea

As was mentioned though, pretty awesome for someone who has a collector type car which is not driven much. Otherwise, it's overkill...
