Anyone See The MPG on The 300C in C&D?
I don't have the new issue in front of me but I believe it says they observed 15MPG on a 400-mile trip with the Hemi motor.
My TL will get double that over 400 highway miles!
You might as well just get a big SUV if the nest you can do is 15 MPG.

Its a V8 for Christ's sake. Stop trying to compare it to Honda V6 technology. The class is a different class vs TL anyway so whats the big deal? Its a bigger car. Exotics have like 13mpg. Are you going to compare them to the TL too?

why not comparing with a tank? use gallons per mile instead of mpg.

I just read that last night in C & D. Now you KNOW they drove that car as hard as possible. If I had one, I would. ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Before you all get your panties in a wad, I've seen a number of threads on here from people
considering one or the other, so obviously people do cross shop these cars.
They are both sedans and their price and performance are similar and their size not *that* much dofferent.
Just something to think about for anyone seriously considering one.

Mmmmmm... Anthracite
I may be wrong on this but I think when at highway speeds cylinders actually cutoff and instead of V8 it works as a V6 or less, in a feeble atempt to improve gas mileage. Obviously from the C&D test, it doesn't work.

It's one of the cheapest cars on the market with that much power. You can't really expect to get too much more than the power, like cylinder management or aerodynamic pieces.

There is no excuse for an 8 cylinder car to get that poor gas mileage.
A Crown Vic can get 30 mpg with its old engine and heavy weight. How? It has torque which can be geared down

Not a Blowhole
Aren't you all forgetting a coupla things?
1) These are test drivers
2) They do not pay for the gas they use - it is expensed
3) They are given a Hemi V8
4) They are going to romp on it like there is no tomorrow, for them there is not tomorrow.
5) Ergo: 15 mpg.

I love cars!
I wanted to clear up the trim levels. The model is the Chysler 300. The "C" is reserved for the highest trim level which is the only trim level with the HEMI. I doubt that rental fleets will have HEMIs, though I have seen plenty of rental 300s with the various V6s.

The !ase 300 comes with a 190hp v6, then there's the touring and limited which have a 250hp v6, then the 4th trim level is the C, which is the top of the line and carries the Hemi. Rumor is they're coming out with a 6 liter version!

I had heard from someone that actually ownes a Ram Hemi, that 2 of the cylinders shut down when on the highway for better milage....now I see the 15mpg and seriously doubt the owner. Anyone else heard of this "story"?

You can correct the owner in that 4, not 2, of the cylinders deactivate under cruising. This feature, called the Multi-displacement system (MDS) is not available in the HEMI application for the Ram, so your friend's Ram engine is always firing on all cylinders.
