Anyone notice that Virgin Mobile1 motor oil is now darker?
I was changing the oil in my TL today and had 1/2 quart of older Mobile1 and then opened a new case to get 4 new quarts of oil. I noticed a pretty extreme difference in the color with the new oil significantly darker. It seems like Mobile change the oil formulation. I have always used the 5-30 regular Mobile1 and was accustomed to the light amber color it had. The color now is more like a maple syrup color.
I searched around the web and didn't find anything definitive on this topic.
I was hoping to see something on the Mobile web site but didn't see anything. Not a huge deal with me, but I thought I would share my observation. I submitted a customer request to see what Mobile says.

M1 differs depending on where it's sold as it's made by a vast number of suppliers. The formulations differ so they can keep the supply chain functioning properly in the event of a natural disaster or disruption, so M1 uses MULTIPLE BASE STOCKS that provide the "same level of protection".
In short, the oil is doing it's job but it's being changed/slightly altered to make sure the company doesn't loose money.
I've been told (no way to verify this) that walmart and other discount stores will get the "worse" batches of oil for a lower price compared to some specialty stores, same goes with ammunition and other name brand products according to a friend.
If you change M1 via the MID, you'll be fine. I run M1 EP 5W-20 for around 10-12K vs the 15K it's meant for.
