I've been discussing a 1994 Integra with someone else on another forum. On a flat highway, going at a consistent speed of 80 mph for 3 hours, what kind of fuel mileage would you probably see in the base manual model Integra of that year?
That's the situation he gave, and he said his friend caculated it at over 40mpg. From all of the motor vehicles I've driven, they have never varied more than 2 mpg either way on the highway. Not to mention I was driving around 65-70, not 80.

One on the right for me
I drove my friends 94 LS back from Florida. Averaged about 83 miles an hour on the highway and got about 35 mpg the entire way back to the Bay.

This greatly depends on the condition of the motor, the upkeep of the drivetrain, crosswinds, weight of the wheels and of course, the rolling resistance of the tires.
All things even, mid 30's sounds about right.

Also, I meant to say out of all the vehicles I've driven, they have never averaged out to more or less than 2 mpg than the EPA estimate.
Why would you get 35 mpg driving 80mph in that car? Would you expect around 35 mpg driving 80 in a Honda Civic of the same year?
Do these cars mpg average improve after a few years of consistent driving?

I had a '96 Civic LX auto that would get 39 mpg at 75 mph

I actually was surprised with the mileage we got. The car was loaded down with crap. I'd expect more if it wasn't so full.

No TL until I have kids!
40 MPG makes sense even at 80 MPH because it's an RS. I pull just under 40 in my GS at 70-75, even though it's heavier (it has auto trans + ABS + sunroof + leather seats + power locks - which the RS does not), so I can definitely believe your friend. The RS is pretty light, considering how it doesn't carry the extra weight that the LS and higher models do.
On a full tank, I went from my house in Silver Spring, MD to two parts of Baltimore and then went to Germantown. I put about 150 miles on the car that day at 70-75 MPH and it calculated out to just under 40 MPG.
I left Philadelphia in my '97 GS-R with a full tank, and drove back home to Silver Spring, MD at a steady 65-70 MPH and filled up again for purposes of calculation. I got a solid 35 MPG. Bear in mind that this was in a 4-door GS-R with a full trunk.
