Anyone know anything about Infinitis?
Alright, so my friend is looking for a new luxorty sedan.....so im doing some research on infinitis...
so the M45 comes with a 4.5 V8 rated at 325hp......but the G35 comes with a 3.5 V6 and is rated at 306hp....what the hell....by number crunching the V8 should at least push out 60hp more than the 3.5
and the M35 with the 3.5 V6 is rated at 275hp....looks to be a detuned version of the G35...but its suppose to be the flagship sports sedan......wtf

The world is not won on HP number alone...
M45 = 325 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque
G35 = 306 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque
Now while most ricers just care about hp, you gotta look at the big picture to understand the deal...
"Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races".
Don't try to second guess why Infiniti does what it does with it's cars. They pay people 6 figure salaries to figure out what hp/tq levels the different models should have in order to maximize profits and reduce cross-shopping.

^^^ That said, the next M V8 will likely have the same 390hp+ V8 that will come with the 09 FX.

The V8 will get you effortless performance thanks to the torque, though the G35 is just as fast thanks to its lower weight and in the end hp counts in a race. Just think about the 300C and the SRT8 version, pretty much the same torque, different hp, which one is faster?
Also you can't really do that number thing, it doesn't work that way. Each engine is designed differently, also note that the V8 in the M is getting old, so like F23A said it will be mostly likely get replaced soon. Kinda similar to what's happening to Honda now, Accord V6 makes 268hp while TL makes 258, but the TL costs more.

The G and M are different classes of car (think BMW 3 v. 5), and the V6 on the G is new for this year, while the M engines are at least a couple of years old.
The M45 is the flagship, the M35 is the small-engine less expensive base version which is slower than the G (like the 530i is slower than the 330i).

It's not only about the hp and torque. It's about where/when it is available.
The bigger V8 will make more power down low.
I sure wish my TSX had more oomph at 1500-2500 so I wouldn't have to downshift as much around town.

I'm getting my gf interested in Nissan/Infiniti's. She is set on getting a Maxima eventually, but I took her to Infiniti and she likes the M45x and G35 sedan. She also loves the G37, but said that it wouldn't be practical when/if we get married and have little ones. She wants to buy the car in white.
