Anyone here with a last gen Z4 roadster?

If so, please share any noteworthy issues.

I am looking at 06/07 CPOs to DD in Florida (10 mi commute).

Is there a big difference between the 3.0 and 3.0si?
Do autos take much away from the experience?
Any frequent problems?
Are insurance rates for the Z4 unusually high?
What should I expect to pay for an 07 non-nav with ~30k miles?
Are the soft tops reliable?
Does the windshield cutoff line become an annoyance for someone 6'-0"? Or will driving with the top up be a problem?
Stereo decent when the top is down?

Thanks!

This one caught my eye: IDEAL combo (minus the fact that it is a non-SI) i really cant think of a car that fulfills all levels of fun/looks/speed/handling/luxury for $25k.

i came around big time! the car in and of itself is swaying my decision to take a job offer in miami over staying in NYC. quality of life + a roadster >>>> NYC.

I've had seat time in a Z4 3.0Si, and I've also driven 3 series cars with the standard engine. There is definitely a difference between the two motors, but most of it is above 5,000 rpm on the tach. I'm not 6' tall but I have a torso like Shaq and I still fit into all Z4s without any visibility issues. The Z4 I drove was a SMG version, so no performance sapping problems there, but even with a standard torque converter automatic the car would still be very good.

the z4 is nice. I drove the z3 and i fit in fine, but the space is confining. I'm 6' 140lbs.

I bought a boxster and that had much more room and storage.

Buddy's got a silver vert. Auto 2.5, I think.

It's a bit slow, but it handles nice and, honestly, it's a vert BMW. He did spend $1,700 this year on maintenance alone, so he's actually going to be trading in on a 2011 Genesis Coupe in a couple of weeks here.

While it was in service one time, he had a black 3.0 Auto vert. He let me tear it up and I liked it a lot. Nice car. But it still wasn't that fast.

I'd try to get one with sport package. The seats alone are worth it.

Sport package is a must... I like the Z4, I just wish they would stop making them in gold and light blue.

I'd rather go with the z4m roadster if I was in the market. 06/07s are going for under 30k

I bought my Imola Red Z4 M Roady brand new back in 2008. I have everything except navi and extended leather.

Since I bought it, I only drive it on weekends and so far I have 10 000 km on it. So far it has been reliable. I only had to get oil change once a year.
Insurance is suprisingly low in Canada for this vehicle. I got the premium sound sytem (THX certified) but I am not very pleased with it. My '10 TSX Tech sounds much better than this car. The best thing about this car is handling. It's like the car is on rails! This car attracts a lot of attention. Go check out the zpost forum for common problems. Good luck!

test drove a 3.0si auto today. seemed pretty slow, to be honest. P.S. they had an 08 M roadster for <34k with only 7,xxx miles. i couldnt believe the price.

all of the tri-state Z4s have unecessarily low miles @ prices im not willing to pay (28-30k). my strategy is to sell when the warranty goes void. i dont see a point in paying for a Z4 with ~10-15k miles if the warranty only has 3 years left. theres no way im racking up the remaining miles on a 100k warranty. that said, i think im going to hold out until the move to miami and pick up someone's DD with more miles for $ thousands less. but the Z4 is certainly at the top of my list.

Awesome looking ride.

Is the sound system Harmon Kardon? From my experience, (three Benzes in my family with HK sound systems ) HK systems usually just sound muddy and muffled almost. The ELS in Acuras blows it and many other sound systems out of the water, I agree.

For problems, you might want to check out BMW forums, but to be honest, BMW does have problems. If the problems doesn't happen now, it will happen later. As for insurance, I know the Z4 will be high. Based of the idea that its a convertible sports car, and its a BMW. Insurance companies like to profit off the sporty cars.

Good luck on your purchase! I also prefer the old Z4s (The ones you are looking at) over the newer ones. The new one's name is so long... now... why?!

My buddy had a Z4M for about a year or so but realized it was too impractical.

But while he had it, he loved it. It was fast as snot and handled really well. Built very well too.

If you're looking at a Z4 you have to get the 3.0 ... I would say that even if you have to step back a year to get it, you should do it.

I have driven the z3M power for quite a while, along with the first z4 version. I like the looks of the z4 better In a convertible. But the little z3 hatch back I have ALWAYS loved. Just love the lines and that car. The z3 I found more fun to drive. But both are fun. Little RWD roadsters FTMFW! If I had the money to drop on just a "toy" car I would pick one up.

looking for a 3.0 or 3.0si auto to DD. i need to do the math to see if owning a Z4 for the last 3 years of warranty is better than a 36 mo lease. of course, this is all speculation - i may end up staying in NYC. just like car shopping. i hate not having a car and dealing with NYC subways.

in regards to the Z3: owning a 5+ yr old Z3 as a DD / commuter car would be a nightmare waiting to happen.

BMW CPO warranty doesn't cover everything and even when it does you're gonna be paying a $50 deductible for every visit.

$50.00? Not really a deal breaker...that's a tank of gas.
