Anyone else buying discount gas?
I've always filled up with Shell, BP, or Exxon. With gas being so high, I decided to try some "discount" gas after my co-worker said his car actually seemed to run better on it. I went down to the local grocery store (Krogers) which sells gas at a cheaper price with their discount card. I saved 13 cents/gallon over my local Shell station. I've had it in the car for a week now, and I say it runs better also. No more extra cranks to start up, no more "cold idle" stumbling I've experienced over the past month. My advice, don't be afraid to try it...you might like it.

Discount gas is "unbranded" so like the gas stations that are unbranded buy the "extra" gas from the main companies for a discounted price. So one time you get gas at the unbranded station you might get really good gas ie, shell, mobile or whatever, and the next time they might have "other" gas like diamond shamrock or total, so its really a toss up, but unless you are running boost it doesn't really matter, I run boost and I only get BP (Amoco Fuels) they are the only one that sells 92 here. I also try to always go to the same station so if i do get bad gas i know where i got IT!!.

I fill sunoco or exxon\mobil, but mostly exxon\mobil because its more convenient for me .. there is one right by my house and I have the speed pass thing so I dont have to dig through my pocket for a credit card. I dont think I'd be putting discount gas in my tank .. nor could I see how it could make the car run better. I think its all in your head

Naa, I dont think it matters anymore. I travel around my county a lot during the day, and one day I followed a fuel tanker on his rounds. He stopped a Mobil, 4 small private gas stations, an Exxon station, 3 more small stations, and an Mobil..
And it was funny. Same fuel.... Same delivery truck... Gas went from 1.65 up to 1.93.. (This was a few onths ago)
Where do they get off changing the price of gas like that? It is the same stuff as the other places carry,,

I’m a Mobil Super guy at heart, but admit that recently I’ve been going to BJ’s Wharehouse Club for my gas.
It’s 93 octane, the same as Mobil and much cheaper.
I haven’t noticed any loss in performance.
Mobil super in my area is currently 2.20-2.25 a gallon and I just got gas Friday for 2.05 at BJ’s.
I still plan to run Mobil every once and a while because of the additives & cleaners, and I have no plans to surrender my SpeedPass, but BJ’s is right up the street from where I work.

A tanker usually drops a full load at one station. They do not drop part of a load at one stations and continue to another station. The same trucking company can deliver to a many different station brands.
All gas is the same except for the additives.

I need to go to the gas station with the 5cent discounts...
My best gas mileage was from a WAWA gas fillup, not sure if it was because of more highway driving or just a different gas...
Anymore it is mobil, amaco, sunoco. I will pay whatever...

If it goes any higher then that I'll probably start bargain shopping, but the prices are very comparible across all the stations, so I haven't seen a reason to switch.

i always fill up with Sunoco Super Octane 94 gas in my car... With Shell tainted gas issues, I never fill up there. Exxon or Mobil, which are called Esso here in Canada happen to be my second choice for gas. just my

Where is my super sauce?
My fueling habits don't change when fuel costs rise. Sure, I grumble about the cost, I don't see how it's worth a few dollars per tank to totally change my habits. I still get fuel from busy brand named stations.

I usually buy Chevron premium gas. Haven't had to pay much over $2 here by shopping around. Just paid $2.04 this weekend, but I saw an Exxon with $1.99 for Premium too. prices have dropped here. some stations were up to $2.15 for awhile but I kept looking.

I actually started going to BJ’s a few weeks BEFORE the prices spiked a few weeks back.
I shop there at least once a week anyway so it’s just as easy as going to Mobil.
And I don’t drive as much as some of you guys do. I only need to fill up like once every two weeks.
I figured I would give it a try and switch back if a problem arose. It never did.
I do miss using my SpeedPass though.
At BJ’s you have to scan both a credit card AND your membership card to get the lowest price.

I use whoever is cheapest, but nothing but 93 goes into my tank. Using $2.26.9 as an example at marathon, Ive noticed they built the first Meijers in the area, and I was disappointed that they had 93 priced at $2.33.9.
However, spend enough in the store (I don't know the exact number, because my folks did this) and they give you a receipt for $5.00 off on their gas. That is huge, spread over 17 gallons!
Meijers is a full blown grocery store, pharmacy, liquor store, clothes, nursery (plants), school supplies, DVDs and DVD players (a portable for $100!), digicams and small tvs. No big tvs or computers, though. I think you have to spend more that 50 to 75$. Shit, I can spend $75 on just razor blades every two months, let alone food and booze.
Last time I filled up, it was like $28. $23 sounds more like it
