anyone with 3000gt experience
I have recently been looking around and found some pretty nice looking 3000gt's on Ebay and the like and was just wondering if anyone here ever had any experences good or bad with them.
I think if i were going to go for one it would have to be the VR-4 though.

My friend used to have a VR-4, they are very fast cars. Handle very well and Look sick with nice rims. She never had any problems until she wrecked it(idiot!). I believe it was a '95 and had 74k on it, still was running very strong.

We just sold our '94 3000GT a month ago. The reliability of one sucks in my opinion. My girlfriend got it new in 94 and has basically rebuilt the car except for the engine block. It was using a quart of oil a week, but she did 186,000 miles out of it costing a small fortune every year to keep it on the road. I think the main engine problem is the valve seals go bad and it will burn oil easily. Ours was not a VR-4, just a standard GT. Good luck!

Friend has one. Had since new, taken good care of it. Drives it like a bitch, never runs it. And the thing is still falling apart with about 60k miles on it. Also, it's very expensive to fix. Its a VR4

My friend has a VR4. The turbos arent too promising after 100k or so, but then again its just an excuse to go ahead and upgrade em.
^he has exhaust, intake, and boost controller and get in the mid 12s.
pretty much, you could throw in a couple hundred bucks and that shit will spank most cars on the road.
cool things about the VR4. theres an "aero" button that raises the wing and bring down a deflector under the front bumper. you could drive around waving your wing at people. hehe.
also the roof is made of glass and can be removed
id say if you are going to get the GT, only go with the VR4

btw the reliabilty is not as horrible as the eclipse.
check out 3si.org its the largest GT / Stealth (same platform/engine) forum around. i think youll be pretty satisfied with their opinions on their GTs.

The VR4 can hit 12's with some mods, because of all wheel drive. I have seen 11 second VR4's get smoked by high 12 seconds civics on the highway. Look at the trap speed of these 12 second cars, they are low 100's.

hey, i know this is old.. but if you ahve any questions about 300gts.. PM me..
im the president of the socal club for them.. i have replaced about everyithgn you can on them, and have a low 11 second stealth (same thing).
ps.... to get a vr4 into the 12 second range, you would only need VERY minimal mods. one of the old ones i had went 13.1 with intake and exhaust.

I believe the stock 3000gt is 170HP far from the 330HP in the VR4. I am sure for the base you can get the normal bolt-on's I/H/P/E and turbo's too. So it depends on how much you wanna spend. I would just get a "92-94 VR4.

15s would be a good bet for an NA DOHC. 222 hp stock, with normal bolt ons.. you can bump it up to about 250-260 range.
i just got finished twin turboing a non turbo Spyder (even heavier than the hardtops).. and the little bitch walks away from stock VR4s on the freeway.
if you wanna build a bruiser VR4 start with a 94+.. they have 4 bolt mains caps over the 1st gens 2.. and forged internals over the cast pieces. of course the 2nd gens also loose the ability to tune base timing, and are OBDII, which is expensive to get dataloggers for.
