Any Toyota oil sludge owners here

Tell me about your experience.

A co-workers daughter in law has a 2004 Camry V6 with 80k miles that is having the problem. They have always changed the oil in the car and it even has an extended warranty, but Toyota is not wanting to honor it because they say they were not chnaging the oil properly.

I found a class action suit against Toyota for this particular problem.

Thanks in advance

I didn't know Toyota made oil sludge.

Where do you get it? Is it expensive?

If they didn't keep proof of oil changes, they are SOL!

My mom's Sienna was starting to have a sludge problem, so she sold it and two months later, the dealership that bought it from them had to put a new engine in it.

She works for a car dealership... they usually just did whatever she asked, so probably no formal records. She did do it though.

For all who have no idea what I'm talking about.

Don't dealerships keep records of whatever service you perform? I know that my dealer can pull up all the services that the dealerships have ever done. It doesn't even have to be at that specific dealer, it can be at any of the dealers as long as it's the same brand.

My friend had an MR-2 forget the year. I think 02-04 and he had a sludge problem. They replaced the engine the first time. Second time he had to take them to court.

my cousin in Australia had this problem... he bought a camry from an auction and after he drove it home, it was running like crap... he too apart the head to find so much sludge buildup and the engine only had 36k km on it... he was shocked but ended up footing the bill himself...

i never realized this was that huge of a problem...

I have heard about this as well.

How the hell did they manage to have this problem affect engines company-wide?

Nice engineering, Toyota.

The "sludge era" ended in 2001.

There might be a PCV problem or a coolant leak. A 2004 with sludge problems is very unusual. Was the oil really changed every six months or 5k?

Is she sure that the problem is really sludge? What evidence does she have? Don't bother looking through the oil filler cap, there's a rubbery coated baffle there that looks like sludge but it really isn't.
