Any experienced bike riders give me some insight?
Hi guys. I am just getting into motorcycles. I have a friend who is getting rid of his 1996 Suzuki RF600R. His dad is really into bikes and so they've been doing the maintenance work on it. According to his dad, its in great shape and doesn't need any major work in the near future. It has 15,000 miles.
I was originally going to get a Kawasaki Ninja 250R which everybody says is a great starter bike. I've found an '04 with 4k miles for about 2,000. Most of them are around that price.
My friend wants to sell the Suzuki for $2,250. It will need a new front tire which local shops say will run about $150.
I don't know which to get. I feel like I've got a nice deal on a 600cc bike. Another friend who has been riding for about a year now says that I'll outgrow the 250 real quick. Once I get proficient, I do hope to do the highway commute, if that makes a difference on what bike I should get.
Thanks for your time

Hey bud.
My brother is a pretty into motorcycles. He started with a Suzuki RF600R too. It's a good starter bike but you'll grow out of it in less than 6 months. You can always resell the bike once you grow out of it and just try to remember one thing once you become a biker.
Safety first!
Best of luck and be safe.

I vote for the 600. Those RF's were weak for a 600 in their day, so it should be fairly mild for a new rider.
Don't listen to people who say you will outgrow the bike, that's a joke. I spent 12 years on 600's before getting a 1000. I can lap VIR North faster on a 600 than my 1000.
My advice, get the RF600 and ride it as much as you can and never skimp on tires or brake pads.

Ok guys. Thanks for the lightning fast responses. I didn't want to leave my friend hanging and I really need to get back with the 250 seller too.
I think I will be going with the 600. I'll post a few pics when I get it later this week.
What would be considered high miles for a bike though? Just for ref.
