Any BMX X5 owners in the house?
I am looking at some used 3.0i and 4.4i models. Just wondering if any AZ members had one, and could give some feedback on them.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Drifting
my uncle had one when they first came out, but ended up getting rid of it for a 3 series wagon mainly because of fuel economy and location. Overall, they're quite nice though, handle better than most SUVs and performance is pretty good as well.

My dad has one with the factory lip kit and 20s.
Pros:
Looks
Space
Interior
Handling
Power (4.4 awd)
Cons:
Feels heavy
Bad gas mileage
Turning radius is so so. Ive never driven another SUV so maybe its just me.
I hate driving huge SUVs and therefore hate driving my Dad's X5, but it is very practical for hauling people around the town for a night out.

My sister has a 4.4i.
For the price, it's not the best bang, but what do you want, its a BMW.
Pros include:
Handling...handles really well for an suv.
Interior leather is top-notch of course.
HUGE sunroof.
Cons include:
Doesn't come with a cd-player, when getting navi. You have to purchase
a CD changer from them which is like 800!!
Gas mileage, although the 4.4 is supposed to get better gas mileage than the 3.0 because it has to work less I believe.
More maintenance problems than Acura. She already had to take it to the dealership twice.
All in all, if you don't mind getting it serviced every now and then for small problems, its a great suv.

Don't know about the X5 but I have a X3 and it is a great vehicle. Has road holding as good as most first line cars and brakes to match. I used to have a 02 TL S but found the brakes where not up to the job on long down hills here in the Colorado mountains. The disks would warp and the vehicle would start to judder every time I would come over Rabbit Ears Pass. (This was not because I don't know how to use a gear box). My BMW X3 never feels short on brakes over the same road. I have noticed there is a good number of complaints about the RL brakes, and as I am contemplating a possible move to one, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on the 06 brakes or are they not up to Brembo caliber?
I also asked about Brembo brakes on the TL and was told that they are only available with the manual gear box. It seems to me that Acura is making a big mistake in not offering Brembo brakes on all the TL and RL models if it expects to be on a par with BMW Etc.,in the high performance vehicle field.

It's a great city/light off road SUV.
The 4.4 is much better than the 3.0. Better acceleration, better sound, better mileage...
The best way to get one is to lease one. If you buy used, make sure it still has a balance of the factory full maintenance warranty, and then pony up the money and get an extention on that. It makes life easier, and makes a better selling point when the time comes.
They like to consume three things: Gas, window regulators, and brakes. The latter two are covered under warranty.
Go drive a 4.4 with the sports package, and you will like it. If you can find a 4.8, that's a huge blast to drive, but almost twice the price.

My mother has a 2004 X5 3.0, and overall it's a very nice car. The comments regarding the fact that it is a heavy car, is accurate. The 3.0 has okay power but on the other hand gets better gas mileage than the 4.4.
The steering is very tight (its a BMW) and you feel very safe while driving during adverse weather conditions.
Just keep in mind that everything is expensive with that car, tires, oil changes, and trips to the pump (requires premium of course).
Check one out for yourself and see how your thoughts compare to ours.

What Would Don Draper Do?
there's a guy on this board...he's got an rs4 and an m5. i think he owns a 4.8 as well. i rarely see 4.8's on the road, but they're beautiful looking cars.
my mom's friend has a 3.0...she says she wishes she got the 4.4 for the reasons others have already stated.

Acura TLS are SLOW
I had a 04 X5 3.0 I Loved it. Due to finacial issues, I had to get rid of it. In my opinion, it is the overall best SUV/SAV compare to MB ML320, Acura MDX, Envoy, etc. The BMW trademark driver-to-road response make this SAV feel like a car.....very nimble, solid, and confidence feeling in any weather conditions. As for the interior, BMW knows what the consumer wants; ample headroom, legroom, and a overall quality interior. The premium package, nappa leather, and the privacy package is a must. With that said, once you have own a BMW product, it is hard to look at any other brand of vehicle.

My wifey drives a '02 X5 4.4 Sport Package and so far (knock on wood) it's been a very reliable ride. Extended warranty is always a good idea, covers most defect items that may give you grief after the factory warranty expires. Thinking about trading it in for a X5 4.8is Just need to convince the wife that she REALLY needs the extra horses.
