Another Mile-long Shootout!
Porsche 997 GT2 (530HP) vs. Corvette C6 ZR1 (638HP)

Who is actually the winner here after these 2 different races with 2 different results???
I guess they really are 2 different cars: The 'Vette is heavier in the front, has a huge engine, is Supercharged, and has more HP...The Porsche has better traction as the weight of the engine is over the rear wheels (GT2 is RWD vs. Turbo's AWD), is turbocharged, less HP here, etc...
I'm a Porsche man, so I will argue all day long that the run from a stand still is the true Mile Long Test, and Porsche FTW!!!! I just love Porsche!!!
so discuss, who is the real winner here?!?!?

If I have $150,000 in my acct to spend, I still wouldn't purchase ZR1. I'd just save more to get the Porsche.
Paying more than $100K for a Corvette isn't really my cup of tea.

I'd go with the 'Vette, but not that one. I'd want a late model Z06. I've seen box stock Z06's crank in the 11.70's at 128-130 MPH. This ZR1 only managed a 12.06 as I recall. And the driver wasn't much of a drag enthusiast. His shifting left a lot to be desired.
Not trying to take away from the Porsche because they are proven fine machines. But I love a good American V8 in a good car and the Z06 is about as good as it gets in today's word.

The result is not surprising at all. That doesn't look like an ideal surface for launching, and the ZR1 has a much better power-to-weight ratio, and that's what roll races are all about. And the ZR1 has those (what I imagine to be) amazing MR dampeners that monitor dampener behavior 100 times a second, which results in superior jounce and rebound control, AND an excellent ride. Plus you just cannot emulate the roar of a supercharged V8.

I LOVE Porsches myself, enough to the point where even when people mispronounce the name I correct them... but when the GT2 came out one thing came to mind instantly: overpriced. I'm not a badge whore, and when it REALLY comes down to it, when I'm the one making all the payments on it, it would have to be the ZR1. If I wanted I could get the whole Caravaggio interior treatment - spend ~$15-20k and get the dash, steering wheel, door panels, etc. wrapped in premium, stitched suede and get CF racing buckets. I'm just a practical guy I guess.... I see no justification at ALL spending pretty much twice as much for the Porsche badge and a nicer interior.
The guy in the ZR1 is a pretty embarrassing driver, and I know he's no pro or anything but Ranger managed an 11.2 on a bone-stock Z06 with stock tires.

Not a fair run for the Vette in that test. I know for a fact that it can do better than 3.8 to 60 and 12.06 through the 1/4 mile. Given a better driver the Vette would easily take a GT2 in acceleration. Given the huge disparity in price I'd definitely go with the American.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nürburgring_lap_times I don't know how accurate those times are but the vette is 6 secs faster then an 08 gt2
That video was setup completely for the GT2...
meh...car and driver expected a 3.5 0-60. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ls+page-2.html
I don't buy the 3.8. That sounds like driver error.

Porsche GT2 all day LONG!! Don't matter if the Vette is faster.
I mean think about it. A 3.6 liter flat-6 engine that produces 530HP and stay's with a V8 supercharged Vette!
