Annoyed ranting..
Just ranting...
I had a friend actually say to me:
"I wouldn't even bother with performance mods on a Japanese car... if it were a german car though (BMW), of course I would."
"Japanese cars are so light, they're just like, thin sheet metal. European cars are heavier, I like that solid heavier feeling."
I was just kinda like.. uhh.. okay.
Annoyed rant. That is all.

It'a all about the power to weight ratio....
Lotus Elise is a good example... It only has 190hp, but since it only weighs 1975lbs it's a quick car.
I used to drive a 3800lb Ford Tbird. Now that I've got a 3400lb car, it's easier to throw it around. I'd love to find a cheap light (under 2700lbs) rwd car to use as a daily summer driver.
Now if your buddy had mentioned the FWD vs. RWD argument, he might have had a chance of not sounding like an idiot.

Ask your buddy if he's ever heard of the 1973 Porsche Carrera RS. They actually used "thin sheet metal" for these cars and they are German. They go for about $150,000-$250,000 today

Don't get me started on the old fords... I miss my last car sometimes (94 Bird) and my brother still has his heavily modded 90 Tbird Supercoupe in my garage....
Seriously, I'd love to have a RS Clone... For about 30K you can get a REAL nice one. Here's one - 255HP/2330lbs... about the same hp as my CLS but 1100 pounds less

Damn, he must love my heavy ass F Body then. Not for nothing, but the little Japanese cars and even some american Compacts(SRT-4) are light as hell, well built, reliable and can out gun some Hi-perf German cars. Note that some of the biggest terrors on the road are your turbo integras/civic/rsx, along with newcomers like the SRT-4 and Cobalt SS. It's actually easier and cheaper the get reliable power out of a Honda motor than it is on an expensive euro motor.
2005 RL = 3984lbs, doors and car are very solid feeling.
And there's nothing wrong with lighter cars like others have mentioned. You can go faster AND get better fuel economy.

911's from 1965-1973 look alot alike, and it's easy to just slap a ducktail spoiler and some side Carrera graphics on one and make a clone...
"RS clone" is a very common phrase used in early 911 classified ads...
The black 1970 911 above is a described as a "RS look"...
Here's another "RS look hotrod" in this case built on a 1973 911T tub. Not a real RS, but it looks like one. At a asking price of $20K vs. $150K for a real one, you can probably understand why alot of clones are built.

Another hater with a German car. He's not the first person to say stupid shit like that, nor will he be the last. Ask him how the electrical is on his heavier and solid feeling German automobile. Retard...
