Amsoil Synthetic

A buddy of mine is a sponsored ATV racer and supposedly gets a good deal on Amsoil (being I don't know how much other people can buy it at). I can pick it up for $4.30 a qt.

Since I don't know much out of Mobil 1 Synthetic, can anyone throw some input in on this one?

That's the typical dealer price. I'm an authorized reseller and I get it for that price too.

A guy named RoadRage on here used to love Amsoil so much, he used that instead of lube.

You can find his informative posts in the 3gtl section.

Amsoil is very good. Personally I was a huge Redline fan and used that exclusively in my TL when I had it. I actually used the Amsoil filters though. Great combo and I recommended it to anyone looking to switch to synthetic. Since Amsoil and Redline are so similar, I'd recommend Amsoil as well, without hesitation....

FYI the new Amsoil filters are a godamm fortune. I switched to Wix filters. I think I paid like $3 something shipped for each one from www.filter1.com

I'm assuming sodaluvr a.k.a. Michael Wan, resident lube junkie would have something to say about this...you can PM him if you want some really gritty details.

I've heard nothing but good things about Amsoil, though I'm an M1 user myself.

Looks like I'll be purchasing a few cases. Only thing is now do I use 5W-20 or 5W-30?

I've used both. XL7500 in 5w20 and full synthetic in 5w30

I believe the 100% synthetic only comes in 5w30

What's the return on investment? Will ordinary oil damage your engine? I'm not sure I see the cost justification, unless you're a rebuild every weekend race junkie. Hondas/Acuras hav been seeing 200K+ mile for year without synthetic. Will you actually own teh car long enough to see a measurable benefit (other than less cash in your wallet?)
