Am I in for a British nightmare?

I just bought a 1980 MGB Roadster limited edition for me and my sons to restore and tool around in. I'm not looking for a concours thing, but I've loved these cars since I recall my the first car my parents had was a 60's MG. This one came off Craigslist with a brand new top, tonneau cover, and minimal rust.

Congratulations! Nice car! I enjoy british cars immensely. British nightmare? Absolutely not! Lucas electricals and constant oil leaks are best described as "quirks". I've been searching for MGA twin cam for the last year now.

It's not a leak, it's a early maintinence computer.
If the area under your car is clean, you are simply out of oil.

Good luck ... I hope you have a better luck than my friend. My friend bought a '69 MG (LHD) for an OK price ... C$10k later, it still requires a good paint job and a whole interior redo. (All the $$$ spent was on the suspension and engine) ...

Difference between you and him: about 11 years of engineering and wear & tear. Too bad the Brits probably didn't spend much more on R&D since the 60s ...

^^Gee, I hope they're not right! I did consider a Miata, but it's like the Accord of roadsters; what's the fun in THAT?

The thread cracked me up. As soon as I saw it I could recall Click & Clack's words: "other than that, it's gonna be a nightmare." And that call was just this weekend.

Anyway, congrats on having a cool, and rare car.
