Advice + Where To Buy a Genuine VW Extended Warranty?
My friend owns a '07 GTI 6MT that is nearing the end of its factory warranty and wants to pick up an extended warranty since numerous things have already broken in that car.
I got a quote from one of the online sellers and came back with:
5/60k: $2190 (which would cover him until 2015 or 105k)
6/72k: $2701 (which would cover him until 2016 or 117k)
(Although it is uncommon, all of the policies add to the current mileage.)
These are for the VW RealDriver Platinum Policies with a $100 deductible! I find it odd that the standard deductible is so high. They want an additional $480-$630 to drop it to a $50 deductible. The shittiest part is, VW's RealDriver warranty's underwriter is actually Fidelity.
So, for those of you who own a newer VW:
1) At those prices, is it worth buying the ext warranty? My friend takes his cars to the dealer for everything, and can't fix anything himself. So far, the car has already had an A/c leak, door look replaced and a DV. Other known issues with this car are cam followers that can destroy the camshaft, as well as blown A/C compressors, both of which can be expensive issues.
2) If he does decide to buy a policy, does anyone know of a reputable online seller that sells these policies for a lower price?
Thanks.

check your state regulations on the warranties. For example Florida has set prices so you can go to agent A and get a warranty for 2000 and then go to agent B and get the same quote. No competition means it's killer prices!

As for the warranty itself... I was always under the impression that the only place to buy a genuine warranty would be to go through the dealer. You can price shop dealers to get the best deals, so that would be my advice. Another tip would be to check the VW forums. I'm sure many people have purchased extended warranties and likely have great first hand advice regarding which to get and where to get it...

Have you suggested to your friend that he might learn how to work on his vehicles? "DV"... A chimpanzee could probably change out a diverter valve.

You'd be surprised. German repair bills are not cheap. Even something simple will cost a pretty penny. An oil change on my wife's A6 is double what it was on my 2G TL...

I received the quotes from this site:
http://fd-warranty.com/volkswagen/index.html
The guys on Priuschat swear by this site, and hundreds of people have purchased warranties from them so I'm sure they are legit.
