Off topic: Thanks for introducing me to Petrolicious. Wow, their videos are great! Short, to the point, well-made. I am officially hooked and have subscribed.

Not sure we can call these grandma cars though, lol...
They certainly are not...to this day I still miss my 85 528e. I really want another one...but a 535i in stick.

The m5s are rare and pricey.

OP, yes that is an RL that Spoon entered into an endurance 24 hour race. I suppose it is HKDM RL since it is RHD. 318 HP at the fly wheel with minor modifications and an almost untouched drivetrain.

No prob, just found it myself a couple of weeks ago. Tastefully made, personal stories, and an era/genre of cars that I just love.

My parents had an 85 528e, white...it certainly had a hand in shaping my automotive tastes. It ran strong for 150k miles.

That m5 on petrolicious...

It's different, lightweight and affordable.

BTW, just had to quote you since I can't thank you twice. Never really heard of this but now I'm scrambling to see if I can sell my buggy to build one of these (and my buggy hasn't even been registered yet!!).

Pretty freakin' cool...

Get a used Miata, or a RX8 if this is your goal. Both will run circles round most things that cost $3500. And you won't have to suffer with weight reduction.
Why not? They can be just as capable as rwd. Especially if stripped down like the OP is talking about.

agreed, I have no traction and little torque steer issues with my TL. especial when it was stripped. No Under steer when driven appropriately. and just a little lift off over steer.

I love the volvo idea though. I think wagon would be appropriate. I'm looking for a 740 or a 240. I like the look of the 740's much more.

Can't watch those videos at work, so I'll have to wait till I get home. sound like they are going to be good though!

850R wagons seem to be about $4k in decent condition.

I think you should consider a 91-95 Acura Legend. The sedans are common and can be had for cheap. Would be funny to see one all stripped down.

Post if/when you build it. I started getting crazy thoughts about doing it someday, too. I'm in love with Aerial Atoms but they're expensive, this seems like an amazingly affordable answer to that problem!

And retrofitting it will take about as long as Edd took to fix the Caterham they had in the shop.

I already started looking for Miata's. Found a good one locally for under $1500. Body is shot... but who cares, I just need the guts

Nationals are this weekend so I'm going to see a few car people. I'm going to ask if anyone knows of a good donor Miata for under $1k. I know they're out there... just need to find them

I hear about them going for $700 elsewhere in the country. I found one for $1200 yesterday. I admit it was difficult not making that phone call. especially since some of the body is in decent shape. There is a little bit of a market for miata parts out here. =)

There was this too. Pretty ridiculous. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...079504678.html
