I'd definitely go with the GS400. I like manual trannies, but the GS400 is definitely very pimp. Sit inside one then sit inside a CL. There is no comparison when it comes to lux... Performance should be fairly close.

If you really want a 6-speed, maybe try looking at a used A6 2.7T 6-speed? Their resale value isn't great and it has great mod potential

With the 300 you can turbo or supercharge it. It has the invincible 2Je-gte engine from the SUpra.
If i am not mistaken the gs3 has the 2jz-gte engine, where as the supra engine has the 2jz-ge
There were some slight modifications to the internals of the engine, and of course, no vvti on the supra engine. from what i have come to understand, the gs300 motor is very strong but some people see it fit to swap for the supra 2jz-ge motor.
1sicklex, can you verify what i just said, i hope im not mistaken.

oh, i forgot to mention. i also have the gs400, that car is excellent in almost every way. in fact, i think the handling of the gs vs. tls stock for stock is better. also, i have to check this but the GS doesnt weigh much more than the CL/TL. the power is good but too smooth, i prefer the vtec engine with its nice pull at high rpms.
the auto tranny is somewhat rough at times on the GS, but it will not breakdown. trust me, that thing is literally bulletproof. still, remember that there is a 20k dollar difference when new, so they are totally different cars. with 20K invested on the TL/CL, you would end up with a car 10 times more superior than a stock GS4

To 1sicklex... I didn't mean that the dash material was cheap, I know the build quality of the GS is friggin awesome as well as all toyotas/lexus. I think the GS is a pimp nasty car, I would need to drive both of them back to back to make up my mind.

You cant compare the GS to a CL-S....2 diff cars

If i ever do get $$$ i wont get a lexus until i'm like 40ish or maybe even 50 years old. They just seem like boring cars to drive.

If you got lots of money to drop on the GS4 and its in good condition i say go ahead, get a body kit, rims, modify the suspensiopn alot and get some performance mods.

My pops just got a 2003 GS 300 and its a nice car and all but it aint for me, i just dont like it when u floor it and u can barley hear the engine and it rides soo mushy...

But remember one thing.... Lexus makes the BEST quality cars, and i mean the ABSOLUTE BEST, my dads old ES 300 and current GS 300 felt more solid and are better built than a S 500 and CL 500 benz's i drove this week.. You cant compare Acura quality and service to Lexus..

Lexus is the number one car as far as long-term reliability goes. Toyota, and especially Lexus (number one) come out champions in all the reliability studies from companies like www.jdpower.com.
I'd have more faith in Lexus with 40K miles then in a new Acura.

Well I've owned both a Black '99 GS400 w/ Chrome 17" Spoiler and Nak, and a Black '03 CL-S 6-Spd w/Spoiler no Nav. The GS400 turned way more heads, and started way more conversations then the CL-S probably ever will. I had the GS400 when I was 23 and I now have the CL-S(I'm 25). I can honestly say I would take the GS back in a heartbeat if my payments were going to be the same. Lets look at the positives of the GS: Superior quality all around, excellent customer service, great styling(either you love it or hate it), fabulous motor with good potential, and a continuing product line. Lets look its negatives: Big V8 means low mpg if you get on the accelerator, tires can go quickly, seats aren't as conforming as those in the CL-S. The CL-S is a dead platform. The GS is slated for further production based on an awesome, dependable, and proven platform. I like my CL-S, but I loved my GS400, if I were in your position, I'd run and grab the GS.

Lets hope that the car is not SOLD yet by Saturday. Because there is this white one i was also looking at and it was SOLD.

This topic is pretty terrible, its really not even a question. Lexus shits on Acura any day of the week. I GS4 is not even in the same market as a CLs, hell its not even in the same market as the RL and come on a TL. I barely compare a TL to a Camry these days. When I first got my CL type S I drove the GM's TL type S and it was gross. Why would you even bother spending money on that car. Regardless If i could go back you wouldn't catch me in a CL either. I'm going to keep mine for two years, then get rid of it before all the problems start and my warrenty runs out. I'm not putting a cent into it other then gas and oil.

These are two very different cars with very different personalities. Seems to me you first have to decide what KIND of car you want.

I thought the 6speed was bullet proof. I use to want a gs so I convince my girl to purchase one. It's a nice car but they are everywhere in DC. IMO if you have a family get the gs but if it's only you get a coupe.
Slap some nice 18in on a 6speed and I gurantee you will get just as many girls.
Trust me all car companies have bad dealerships. When me and my girl tried to test drive a gs in Annapolis, Md the salesman was terrible. Then they had the nerve to send me a survey. Of course I trash the salesman on the write up. We receive more respect from the CarMax salesman.

"The thing is with either of these cars, my monthly payments will be LESS even after tax and all the BS than what im paying now...Insurance will be less also."

Are you talking about leasing or financing? I don't see how that could be true. You are trading in a cheaper vehicle for a more expensive one. If you locked into a long term lease or finance rate when rates were higher then they will charge you to get out of it so you won't gain anything.

There is no free lunch!

Also, the tranny reliability is not a great reason to change. Acura has given you a 7 year warranty which should give you peace of mind.

Anything is possible. Especially when car sales are on a slump.

Im paying right now $750/month for 60 month finance @ 5%.

For the GS or CLS 6SPD i will be paying between $650-$680 after tax /month for 60months...Less than $700 for sure. and insurance will be $160/month full coverage and right now im paying $220/month. When i turn 25 in nov it will be even lower and i should be able to go under my own name..=)

and the honda warranty is 7 years or 160K? I think i will reach 160K before 7 years.. and do not feel like shelling out $3000+ for a tranny. and if try to resell is going to be worth $5000 lolz.

If Honda would pay for a 6spd tranny swap in my car i wouldnt sell it...that will happen when pigs fly.

Ive seen 1988 honda civics that are still in their original auto tranny.

A lexus is a way better car than an acura, hands down.

Get the GS. Those things are really tight. I'd love to own one.

depends on your likes, but i personally don't like the way the gs looks inside or out. think the is300 is the best looking lexus but it needs more power. if we were talking 540i vs cls, yes go for the 540. other wise i'd get the 6-speed cl.

Bad news apparently there was a misunderstanding on the monthly payments. The dealer thought the $650-680/month was LEASE payments but no i wanted it to be finance payments for 60 months. The Finance payments the gave me was $912!!! even with a $3000 discount off the asking price. @ 7.95%.. I said well thats too bad. shook hands and left.. =(

At least i got to test drove it. Let me tell you i never sat in such a quiet and smooth CAR. The car pulls effortlessly.. I love how the tranny has different modes: SNOW mode, Regular mode and SPORT mode. The guy put it on sport mode and told me to floor it. HOOOLY shit we got up to 160-170KM/H from 100 in like 2-3 seconds...sorry to say but this thing would destroy a CLS at highway speeds..

It had a nakamichi system and e-shift which i think is also a cool feature... it was a 00 so a 'millenium edition' along with door sills and black chrome badging.

The only thing i didnt like was the tan interior (id prefer black) and the gauge cluster (oldie style) and the wood trim and the chrome stocks.

The tranny was super smooth and i could barely hear the engine even at 6000rpms..

Well i guess it wasnt meant to be.. but i still LOVE my CLS...

Thanks for all the input guys.

When i pay off my CLS I will be looking to see if there is a GS4 maybe 430 in the same condition. (this one only had 39K)
