ACURA vs LEXUS?

Hi all what would you choose if you had a choice of a Brand New 2003 CL type S 6 spd? or a USED 2000 Black LEXUS GS400 with only 38K KM?

Equal payments for both cars.

Well do you want a old boring 4-door automatic, or a new bad-ass 2-door manual?

GS is much more luxury than the CL. the GS, while automatic, is in the same plane as the CL as far as power and speed. a pimped out GS is much more attractive and noticable than a CL. the amenaties in a GS are beyond that of the CL. the GS is used ,therefore someone else took the hit on depreciation...you but a new CL, the value drops like a rock (just ask anyone whose traded one in in the last year, myself included) id go for the GS in a heartbeat. much higher pimp value...much more class.

Tough call but I think the CLS6 would be alot more fun!

GS400 would be a pimp car but probably not as sporty. The CLS6 handles extremely well for a FWD car while I don't think the GS4 handles that well for a RWD (heavy car). In in all both handle decently but mods for the CLS6 I think would be a little cheaper.

What do modded GS4's run?

For me it would be a tough call, The GS is a pimp ride, people know what it is and dont confuse your car for a avg. Honda...

When its all said and done though, Id stick w/ my CL-s

Well....if you are getting rid of your 2001 because you want a stick then why are you looking at an automatic GS400?

Sounds to me like you are just itching for a change!

In which case maybe the Lex is a bigger change?

Personally, I think that keeping your 2001 is the best bet. You always get hosed when you try to buy and sell. Especially in Ontario where taxes will kill you.

GS400

Seems like a good deal for a GS4 with low miles. Between 00 and 01s, any major changes?

If you think your gonna need a 4-door sometime in the near future and the BLACK GS is in good condition i'd opt for the GS. However if you want a 6sp and don't really care about the 2 xtra doors then go with the CL.

talk about luxury, the GS400 is sick! I mean i like my 6spd CLS but hell, GS's drive like they are on a cloud, and have tons of power. I have seen tons of them modded back in florida, dual exhaust, dropped, 20's, holy shit. Thats all you can say! I would take the GS in a heart beat. I love driving stick but come on now its a freakin Lexus GS400, its on another level especially if you mod it out

Hemants : you from TAC right? hehe.

The thing is with either of these cars, my monthly payments will be LESS even after tax and all the BS than what im paying now...Insurance will be less also. The only bad thing is i just have to start over the 60month term. Jimcol is right with the depreciation thing.

Remember the LEX only has 38K for a 2000 that means the person only drove it around 12k/year which is nothing.

The reason y I want to get rid of the 01 CLS is b/c of the unreliable transmission which was replaced about 3 weeks ago. The car runs fine now, but who knows when its gonna die. I've been searching all over the internet for any Major problems for the GS or lexus in general, and could not find any.

Does anyone know if their tranny is shit also? or if there are known issues with the GS'?

is DR.RICK or 1SICKLEX or any other people that owned a GS still around? Didnt DBOX just buy a GS?

Here are some eye candy of the GS400 exterior mod potential

3 simple mods (rims,springs, bodykit)

I will never drive another automatic until I'm 50 or I lose my left leg for some reason. I do not like the inside of the GS, its a badass car but I am not a fan of the look of the material on the dash that toyota uses. I'm for the CL, plus I'm more of a fan of Acura/Honda.

I know this is a CL board but unless you really want a manual, unless u really want a new car and you really just like how the CL looks, I cannot see any person buying a Cl over a GS .

I've never lost to a CL-S stock and I pull harder now at speeds over 80mph with the SRT intake and racing ECU. Stock, the GS won magazines over with it's coupe-like handling. Well IMO, it was not as sporty as the SC 400 (which I had). Now that I modded the suspension, it drives better than the SC 400 easily and in races, that is where my advantage is, turns.

My best friend bought a CL-S when it first came out and I got my GS 2 months later. His leather is worn, A/C vents popping out, the paint is chipped all over, the tranny shifts like a Buick etc while my car looks and drives like new. He was looking at a GS but got the CL cause the payments were hella cheaper. Finally, he had a 2.5 TL and really misses the larger backseat.

One is a 55k car loaded, one is a 33k car loaded. One is platform specific, the other is based on the last generation Accord coupe. One is 7 years strong, one is discontinued.Lexus service is #1 and they pamper you. No quality issues.
I do not like the inside of the GS, its a badass car but I am not a fan of the look of the material on the dash that toyota uses
Even the NEW E-class guys feel the GS has the best quality interior. But that is your opinion.

I also have a 92 ES 300 which IMO is similar to the CL-S in battling the entry-level field and there is a HUGE difference in quality and build. Like sitting in a 3 and then sitting in a 5, it feels different.

Bad things about the GS?
1. I love the CL-S seats and the old SC seats much better
2. If u floor it, expect 15 mpg.
3. There are a lot of mods available and it will drain your wallet.
4. The 3rd gen comes fall 2004 as a 2005 model with AWD and Hybrid tech and more options.

I've driven the CL-S/Tl-S and 1st gen hella times (all my friends got one), I've driven the CL-S-6 so I pretty much know what I am talking about.

Skinsfan - the GS will be stock.

Thanks SICKLEX. As far as performance mods for the GS I've only seen 1 which is the different intakes such as the overpriced SRT intake + ECU. I've seen INJEN, K&N and AKIMOTO.

or were you talking about the suspension and exterior mods?

Do you know any GOOD forums for the GS like A-CL is for the CL?

The 3rd gen GS I will definitely NOT be able to afford it..

I posted this question in 4 different car forums to see the results

I posted on Accord /integra/ max and here =)

Most lean towards the lex.

YES I DID AND YOU SHOULD TOO!!!

the GS is straight up PIMP SHIT. i haven't been talking about mine at all because it's not done yet. i'm about to put it in the shop for the lsportline kit install. i'm doing rims-kit-lights-grill...everything all at once! i have an 01 cls w/navi and love it but in no way can it compair to the GS.

remember what Mace said? ''i'd rather go lex bubble cuz it's less trouble''... my thoughts exactly

get the lexo bro. i have a 300 but after i do all of the above i just might go TURBO.

I am a super moderator at www.Clublexus.com

I am co-founder of www.seloc.net , which is for my ATL club.
Both have galleries but ClubLexus is my mother and THE best Lexus site bar-none. Hope to see u at both sites.

With the 400, you can also add a limited slip diff and a Torque Converter to help with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. There are superchargers from RMM and Blitz but no one is too fond of them or the price. SRT makes a TT GS 400 for $30k, there are a couple on the board for 550 HP +.

With the 300 you can turbo or supercharge it. It has the invincible 2Je-gte engine from the SUpra.

I modded brakes first, the car had enough power for me.

What is the difference interior wise between the 300 and 400?
and no 20s for me.. riding on 30 and 35 rubbers will KILL my rims in these streets...ill be happy with 19s.

SICKLEX does the SRT intake + ECU really add 30WHP and 40LBS?
I've only seen one dyno from suprastore.com where it produced
26WHP and 30LBS.

DBOX make sure to post pics when ur done bro

I like all the kits i posted above plus the following:

my fam just got an 03 gs3 as a family/weekend car and i'll tell u what, its friggin sweet. Since my dad gets a car from his company when he is at work, the gs3 doesn't get driven that much at all except on weekends and sometimes on weekdays.

The car is sooo solid, my only complaint is the steering is 2 light and its a bit floaty. However, I haven't decided if I'm going to buy that car from my dad, or look at a used gs4/gs43 for myself, 1-1.5 yrs from now. I'll tell u what tho, lexus makes indestructible auto trannies and the 2jzge engine in the gs3 is very solid. Who knows, i may end up doing a turbo to the gs3 instead.

Bro, get the gs4, u can run high 13s w/some spare change

jucee, the ONLY difference is the GS 400 has a wood and leather shift knob oh, and E-SHIFT. I love e-shift, basically you can change gears from 2-5 from the buttons on the steering wheel. Similar to the Acuras but your hands don't have to leave the steering wheel.

SRT intake claims that gain but I dunno, no one has really gotten that kinda gain. 20hp tops, IMO. It kinda hurts low end but really helps at high speeds. It really is quiet, you don't realize it is there until full throttle.

unsure, PLEASE order the L-tuned steering ECU. It's only like $125 and you can install it yourself if you good (I did). It is the ECU from the GS in Europe (where they love stiff wheels) and totally helps the steering feel.

If i had to choose between those two...

The ONLY reason I would take the CLS6 over the GS is because I wont drive an automatic.

Other then that the GS is an amazing car with the right engine (ie 400/430)
Just cant beat lexus and their uber quality.

CL-S6 vs GS400

Actually this is an unusual. The two vehicles are very different and not rightfully comparable. The GS is a full luxury sport sedan while the CL is an entry level luxury sport coupe. So the choice would really depend on what the end desires are. I could think of other options to the GS is used is what you want. Maybe a 540i manual would be a decent trade off if you wanted a stick but also a larger more luxurious vehicle.

Dude, u would so take me U gotta start hanging with us at SELOC, we got a turbo Maxima, sometimes a supercharges Max and the other co-founder has a IS turbo.

Basically what Scalbert said. 2 diff. cars.

GS 4 is fast but I lose to the forced induction cars but I do hang, it's not a complete beating.

If I didn't love driving a manual so much I'd be all over the GS4... I love everything about that car fromit's pimp mode styling to the comfy interior and beastly V8. Even the 300 series motor would be fine if it was boosted. If you want an auto then hands down go for that GS.

540 BMW is nice also but cant find one with low km and the same price range. Another thing is maintenance costs. Since this car will be a daily driver. The BMW maintenance costs will kill me.

1sick, thanks for the advice pal I've known abt the ltuned steering ecu upgrade, but i'm undecided as to wether i'm gonna buy my dad's gs3 or get a used gs4/430
