Acura TL vs. Accord Hybrid
Acura TL vs. Accord Hybrid
im in the market for a new used car. usually i buy acuras and have had great luck with them. but this time the accord hybrid has caught my eye. its either going to be a 2006/ 2007 TL, or a 2006/ 2007 hybrid accord. does anyone have any specific information about the major differences between the 2 cars? or advice / opinions about buying a used hybrid in general?
thanks for your help

an acura tl accelerates like a car should, looks good and is fun to drive. accord hybrid is a hybrid... i personally enjoy destroying the environment, my neighbor drives a prius and i chuckle every morning when they silently pull up the street while i smell the fumes coming from my catless exhaust. haha hope this helps

I'll assume that gas mileage is a significant factor because the cars are pretty different and would not be normally compared against each other. The Accord does have a V6 so it should perform better than a Prius anyway. If you have a Highway commute, you might not see a a huge difference in mileage for TL .vs. Hybrid- it's City mode where the Hybrid will do better. The TL looks better, performs better, and has a lot of options that won't be in the Accord. The other factor is the TL is still in production while the Accord Hybrid is not- presumably because it was a slow seller.
I would certainly go for an Accord Hybrid over a Prius- I just hate the Prius' looks and could never own one myself.

One thing to be careful of is the warranty. Honda gives a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty on the batteries when bought new and that supposedly gets them to their half-life. I'm not sure if that warranty is extended to used cars, but if not I was told that the Civic Hybrid batteries are a $5,000 cost for replacement, just for the batteries - no labor included. I only know this because my g/f was looking at buying a civic. If there is a battery problem and it's not under warranty, you just spent any extra money you saved on gas for battery replacement. Looking at maintenance costs is always a key factor in car decisions for me. Just my

my vote is for the tl as it is a timeless design and the gas milage is pretty similar in real world driving to the honda

In helping my mother inlaw car shop the Accord, I drove an 07 AV6h while at the time owning an 07 AV6. Honestly, it didn't feel any quicker than my AV6 and it handled terribly by comparison.
That said, at similar cost I'd opt for the TL.

For the five years she has owned it, it has never given her any problems whatsoever. I believe it has around 150 000 kilometers on it and has asked for nothing but one software upgrade and routine maintenance. The dealer tells her the batteries do not need to be replaced, and have actually decreased in price by about 50% than what she was quoted when she originally purchased it.
The car obtains better mileage in town than on the highway. During highway use it uses it's gasoline powered engine for the most part, and the fuel savings don't seem that much different than my '05 V6 6MT. In town, however, the electric motor is used much more often which equates to better fuel mileage. It's odd sitting at a traffic light in complete silence as the secondary electrically driven air compressor continues to cool down the interior. The transition from electric to gasoline and back again is seamless except for the dash gauges.
All in all, it seems to be a great car. And all Accord hybrids were manufactured in Japan.

thanks for all the answers.. i know that i would enjoy the TL more...im trying to find something that gets better gas mileage, or takes regular gas (like the caddy cts) just had a baby... had to sell my little apt in the city buying a big house in the burbs.. a second car.. blah blah blah...but i just cant get away from how much ive enjoyed all my acuras...its just the little things.. like can someone please explain to me how a 50,000 dollar caddy doesnt even have an option for bluetooth? anyway.. thanks for the help
For the interior and the overall design along with the option of a 6MT, Id go with the TL, but for a few extra MPGs Id get the Accord and be an incognito environmentalist.
Hybrids are stupid and Honda stopped making the Accord Hybrid for a reason. If you want a gas sipping appliance buy a Prius. And yes, I have driven an Accord Hybrid (and Civic and Prius).

But ironically, the one I drove (which was new) was a rattlebox....which totally surprised me.
