They did have a slighter higher chance of rollover according to consumer reports, however, to me, it was like any other 90s truck based SUV

I think I saw one back in 2001 in Cincinnati... And my parents had a friend who had a loaded Trooper back in the day. It wasn't a bad car. Just a bit tipsy, that's all.

Also, Honda / Acura was late to the SUV game (imagine that) and had to quickly find some vehicles that met their quality standards to add to their lineup. Ala, Passport and SLX.

They were capable of road vehicles with some mods.

Wow,
I could still use a beater SUV to make Lowe's/Home Depot runs or haul the dog. Crazy, even though they are the same vehicle, for some reason I'd definitely take one of these to replace my old crappy (but missed) Pathfinder...

...but these, not so much...

I like them a lot for what they are.
I bought one of these for a friend of mine after he decided to sell his Jaguar. He is the king of not taking care of cars, but its been awesome to him.

I have some 35 mm pics of one from the 1999 Seattle Auto Show, held inside the long-gone Kingdome.

I'll have to go to Kinkos to load them up but I can do it. Now to see if I can find them...

Tough Crowd

You guys gotta keep in mind this was before the MDX, Lexus RX, Infiniti FX, etc. Explorers and Grand Cherokees ruled the sales charts and companies like Toyota were rebadging Land Cruisers into LX450s just get SUVs on luxury lots (as they still do today):

While far from perfect, the SLX wasn't that bad and gave Acura something to sell to the SUV buyer...

Thank God the MDX came along though

^ i'm surprised at the rate we're going with crossovers, no one's really made a full size one and do what the newer midsize crossovers did to their truck based counterparts just in the past decade.

The appeal of full-size, body-on-frame SUVs will always be there so long as people need to tow heavy loads and carry lots of stuff. There's a limit to what a unibody design can do.

I agree! My dad had 2 Troopers and I had a Rodeo. They were a great combination of offroad capability, reliability, and affordability. Adding the Acura badge, unfortunately, subtracted one or two of those benefits.
