The Acura Logo
The Acura Logo
We all know it's an 'A' but what's the meaning behind it? I've done some research and have yet to come up with anything but this is my take on it. The stylized 'A' looks very similar to a protractor which is well-known for its ability to make perfect circles. Hence, I believe it symbolizes precision.
Anybody else want to take a shot at it?

Contrary to popular belief, the Acura logo is not a stylized "A" (in the manner the Honda logo is a stylized "H"). The Acura logo is actually an upright stylized caliper. It is meant to represent the commitment to excellence and the accuracy with which Acura's are built and engineered. Of course it's no mistake that the caliper also resembles a capital letter A.

a little FYI: about other makers logos
Chevrolet: The dude that started Chevy was in Paris the "bow tie" design was on a wallpaper cut it off the wall a small section took it back to Motown and thanks to that wallpaper now you got the Chevy "bow tie"
BMW: BMW as you know was orginally a plane engine builder.(pre-WW2) if you look at their logo it's a got about 1/2 blue and 1/2 white. It's to represent a propeller spinning. the blue the sky. The thing i give BMW is even though now they focus on cars and cycles they've got out of the plane business they don't forget where they came from.

That kind of protactor is pretty much the same as calipers, except it has a needle and a pencil... I mean, it uses the same exact principle as calipers and thusly can look the same.
Here are some calipers:

I think the since acura is relatively new, they could've designed the logo after the "new" vernier style caliper, since i think that's the most common for most engineers now.

but this actually caught my eye too. the US loophole referred to may have been the reason why we see the rebadged vs jdm discussion.
It's this style of claliper called the divider caliper if you ask me:

History time...
Originally the "stylized A" (as the factory calls it) did not have it's cross bar. They had even printed press releases with the original logo /\.
The story as the factory tells it is that Mr. Soichiro Honda himself turned the /\ into an A with the top not quite coming to a point therefore it looked like an "A" but if you looked closely, it was still an "H".

I always thought it was a take off from the "H" logo for Honda. I think that would be more clever IMO.
Even my 86 year old grandpa told me he thought the "A" logo was a great take off of the "H" logo.

Acura :
a small car popular amongst high school kids since they don't make any really cool cars anymore. not unlike most other rice-burners.
