Acura ILX

So I was getting my TL serviced and they were rolling the new ILX off the truck.

Personally I think it's just a smaller TSX and looks wise it didn't really turn my head. I didn't realize it was a new model until all the salesmen started gathering around and looking at it.

I guess this is Honda's way of breaking into the hybrid luxury market, gotta admit 35k MSRP for a fully loaded tech package hybird isn't too bad I suppose.

Anyway, if you're interested, pics!

it looks business like in a way, which isnt bad. I like the looks but for 35k my money may not go here... although I'm not sure what the engine options can be had at that price.

Wow, not bad-it sounds like you were not impressed, seeing the car in person...

Is that correct?

We got a bunch at work these past few days. A bit too expensive but it looks better than I expected.

imo, it brings more confusion to car buyers. Too much overlapping within the brand.

Not too bad but a lot of cash. Plus still not a fan of the new front ends.

Nope, didn't look like anything special, just another car. I'd rather have a TSX.

like OP said the hybrid drivetrains are always more expensive... so i dont think its ridiculous but because its reaching into tl territory I'd expect a lot of people to just get a tl, unless they really want that hybrid.

The base tech package isn't too far off. I think sticker was around 33k for those.

The back window/pillar treatment reminds me of a Dodge Avenger. Not a fan of the styling at all, and the MSRP is redonkulous.

Um, no. Have you priced a new BMW lately? A bare bones 328 with nothing more than leather, moonroof, navigation and heated seats (to make it comparable) is 44k.

ETA: and that's the gas version. The gas ILX is just over 31k with those features. So you're looking at a 13k difference. That 35k is for the hybrid with nav.

I don't think its priced bad, either. Have you guys priced new cars? You can spend 30K on a loaded out Ford Focus if you try hard enough. The Electric Focus is 40k!

Not bad. It's a clean enough design to where I think it'll sell well, but still no love for enthusiasts, but what's new?

Or, you could get an optioned out Civic Si sedan for around $27K, which I think looks better.

does the new 3 series even come with power seats for base price?? I've built my 3 series and it comes close to 50k... now way back when who the hell would pay that much for a 3 series! But now its not such a bad buy.

look at the ct200h the only other cheap luxury hybrid starts at 29k and with options it would get up there with the ilx.

I'm not defending the ILX by no means, but cars are just getting expensive in general now :/

Can't believe this crap is more expensive than my previous 2005 TL. That car looked sexy back in 2004 when I bought it brand new.

It's 2012, Acura. 2012.

And it's not just about the pricing tag. It's more about how boring this thing looks.

lol when we bought our tl back in 2000 the one option i think was the navi package and we got it for like 30k

225hp V6, Leather, power everything, navi for 30k! Can that even be found today in any luxury vehicle.

Want to know why?

That's why.

$2.2 trillion in earnings for 2012
$3.5 trillion in spending for 2012

Something has to give. The government just prints more monopoly money.

I thought Acura is going to keep the TSX. That's the only car they have that makes sense right now. 4cyl, 6cyl, wagon/sedan. Make a diesel and it's on.

Instead they are pushing a 35k Civic hybrid aka Acura Roach. MSRP on my '06 Acura TL w/Nav when I bought it new was $35,9xx.

3 series is not expensive car consider the amount of tech and power delivery with fuel economy. Just look at head lights of BMW 3 series. These things cost money.
ILX is really cheap car not only in materials but in looks. Not much chrome on door handles and almost in the middle of door. small side windows as if some one is saving money on window glass. front profile is not strealined cut at the hood. large overhang relative to its size etc.

TSX is really good design. The front overhang is the smallest relative to its size among any Honda and car is sufficiently tall. Rear has square angles. with big rear glass.

Personally, the ILX with a more aggressive body (IE A-spec kit) would look a lot better, and the car in it's current state looks nice!

Remember what was said in the past few years! The TSX will move up to TL territory, the TL to old RL territory and a new RL will be a new 7/A8/S-class competitor! The ILX is just taking the old (2004 first gen) TSX's spot!

EDIT: I thought something was odd with this one! It's one of the hybrid models that gets 39MPG!!!

Saw a black one at the Austin car show today. Even in person, under bright lights it's nothing special. At least it's not ugly. But when you are a tier 2 brand that just doesn't cut it. Well, for the general driving public, maybe, which is the target for this car. Sigh... I may never go back to Acura.

IT does not work like this.
lets compare 1G TSX 2004 standard tech with ILX standard Tech.
Price
2004 TSX tech price $28K.
2013 ILX 2.0 tech $30k.

Interior/boot dimensions. either equal or 1G TSX slightly larger.
Performance with 5speed auto will essentially be a draw.
fuel economy at most 20% in favor of ILX.

now compare BMW 328I 2013 with 2001-2006 M3 sedan auto type
Performance essentially identical with same type of tires not this run flat.
more than 50% improvement in fuel economy.
Much larger and luxurios interior.
much more tech equiped.

2001 BMW M3 coupe (lowered height car than sedan) tested at $52K. observed fuel economy 16mpg.

TSX is the real entry-level 3-series competition.

This ILX lacks any savor. Jetta GLI or even a Ford Focus look more interesting.

M3 were not cheap if you go back to 1999.
BMW is giving you essentially same performance in base 328I with 50% fuel economic improvement with more larger interior and wheel base.

$50k BMW 328 can pull .91g and 69mph slolam run with 24 mpg.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/var/ezfl...6718fa8d7e.pdf

BMW M3 SMG only 17mpg in 2002 and priced at $55k.
at that price 2013 335 is more loaded with 4 year maintainance.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/co...d-the-goliaths

The point i am making is BMW gives you more value now compared to 10 years ago.
