Accident in CA
Hey guys so my friend had a very small accident recently, obviously in CA, and some events transpired that made me wonder what could end up happening. Well first of all my friend drives a red eclipse and hit a jeep from behind, on the bumper, going 10 MPH. There was a small dent on the bumper and since it was no big deal they just traded Insurance info and phone numbers. No police report filed, no eyewitness. That was yesterday afternoon. Today the lady calls her and tells her there's also damage to the door and it can't be open. How the fuck does that happen from a super small hit and dent on the back bumper? Anyhow, it seems like this lady is trying to take advantage of my friend so I promised to ask the all-knowing experts of AZ for advice for her
Any advice guys?
Cliffs:
Friend hit a car from behind going 10 MPH
Small dent on bumper only
No police report
Now lady claims the DOOR won't open
What would you do?
Thanks in advance guys!

My sister was driving my mom's 2002 Lexus RX300 and tapped a guy in a Mercedes at a red light. She was going no more than 5 mph and it barely damaged either vehicle. We find out a week ago that this guy is now claiming his neck is destroyed and worse is the insurance company TOTALED his car.
To put into perspective how minor this crash was, here is a picture of the 'damage' to the Lexus. I suggest your friend document any damage done to her Eclipse to show that there is no way her car could have done that to a Jeep. Good luck!

I assume you did not see the damage to the Jeep and have to use your friend's description, but he should let his insurance company and adjuster sort out the damage to the other car. If fraud is suspected, most insurance companies have special investigation units.
All your friend can do is convince the insurance appraiser that the damage on the door was not from the accident. It would be best if the eclipse has no other damage on it, but its the appraisers should be able to figure it out if the accident was small. Hopefully that jeep will get charged for fraud

What kind of Jeep, and which door? Sounds very possible if it's the rear hatch/tailgate, but less probable if it's a rear passenger door or a front passenger door.

Your friend may want to report this incident to her insurance (to make sure her insurer defends her) just in case the other lady comes back later -- say a year later-- with a claim. If the lady does not make a claim, your friend's rates will not increase because of the reported incident.

Oh, and pics of friend's
please!
Drivers generally have 30 days to report the incident to their own insurance to get coverage and 2 years to file a lawsuit for injuries in CA.

If she is Asian, I bet she will claim injuries
. Regarding the damage to the door, your adjuster will make that call. Just make sure this is reported to the insurance company before the headache.
