'99 Prelude Type-SH - 902 Miles

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Well, those models are still a common site over here. That being said, I wouldn't mind having one, but not at $25K.

Damn. I love the look of the exterior of those ludes. But, there is one gripe I have about it - the dash. What a generic, Oklahoma-flat piece of real estate. For a sporty coupe, that dash is completely out of place.
May still get one for a DD if I can find one cheap, but man...that dash.

A few things concern me....
Why is the airbag a totally different color? It looks different in 3 of the pictures I see of it.
Why was it never sold? Dealer demo car?
And in the ad, it says inventory was screwed up so they thought the car was never there? What does this mean for regular maintenance? and since the Prelude ended production in MY 2001 (?) it's been sitting there for 8+ years and they haven't known about it?
That's a nice catch, and its an SH but I'd rather have a 1-owner SH with 19,000 miles on it than an SH with 900 miles on it that was never sold. Who knows if its even been maintained? Fluids and seals degrade over time whether or not the car is driven.
Sure does look clean though. I've just never understood the value of cars like these.... unless you're a collector, of course. Otherwise, meh

How about this for prelude interior?
My 97 Prelude SH, with factory 2 tone leather interior and heated seats (I have yet to see another prelude with leather or that combination, let alone heated seats). Sold it back in 04 .
BTW the pictures are a repost as I have posted them here on AZ before.

Interesting. But for $26k, I'd MUCH rather have a 2010 AV6 6MT.
JnC, that Lude you previously owned was SWEET!!! You MUST miss that ride!

It's not so much about color, or inserts, etc...it's the shape.
I always liked dashes and consoles that made you feel like you were the most important thing about the car - like the 1G and 2G Eclipse.
A great looking car overall, but I think the dash is it's weak link.

There aren't any new cars today that have dashes that face the driver... at least there aren't any that I recall. In any case it's not as popular as it was back in the day. Hell with Toyota and Mini, they've started to move the gauge cluster to the middle of the dash too

for only 902 miles, some of the center console seems to have a decent amount of scratches. The back seat looks a little dirty, but maybe it's the lighting.
I would say it may be worth 10-15 k, but you'll have to replace the tires and all fluids and belts.
jnc, that looked like one suite car.

yea it seems a bit scratched up for so few miles on the interior. Also, the badging on the back bumper looks like it has been replaced or something, maybe it is just me.
Nice car but I wouldn't spend 25K on it

Not "they" as in the dealer. Honda. It was sitting at Honda factory.
.... Honda has been in possession of this car since its build date in 1998. It still has the original certificate of origin. What this means, is Honda made an inventory mistake and they just realized that the car was actually there. We were able to pick it up from the closed factory sale just the other day. ....

Brilliant! I can't wait for this car to be sold so it would show up on the monthly sales report by Honda.

I like stories like these, but I like even more how the sellers always try to get a fortune for them. I mean really, it's still a 10 year old car with no warranty...expecting it to fetch more than it cost in 1999 is kind of silly.
I could see someone paying $15-16k for it though.

A unique novelty, it would be cool to bring to import shows.
That being said, those guys are on pure crack if they want $26K for a car that would need an immediate $1,500 to $2,000 in new hoses, fluids, brake pads, timing belt, tires, etc .etc.
I could see squeezing $15K, maybe even a little more from someone who just HAD to have it. Probably not though.

Three Wheelin'
This makes me wonder what these older low mileage Honda's will fetch in the next 10 years. If you grew up with a '99 Prelude as a first car, then had to sell it for something more practical. Several years later it might be worth it's original sticker price. My dad always wanted another '69 Camaro. I know someday I'd like to pick up another CRX. If it were low miles and all original, I might pay the inflated price.

Just thinking about *, this car was manufactured when the 6G Accord was only in its second year and is now being sold when the 8G Accord is in its 3rd year. That's some inventory control oversight.

I would love to purchase it, but not for a dime over 10 grand. I mean its a great car and would be somewhat of a dream of mine to find one in this perfect of shape.
But anyone who pays 26k better be prepared to garage queen it. You'll never find an insurance company to insure it for 26k (sure theres gap coverage, if you can find one that will insure a 16k difference)
If anything happens to it, try explaining to an insurance adjuster that its still worth 26k

Honestly, the dealership should just keep as it may be considered a classic in about 12 more years (making it 20 years since the Prelude's discontinuance) and would make for a great floor trophy.

There's no way they're letting it go for $10k, or even $15k. There are 5-speed SH's on craigslist right now going for $10k... that's with 80 or 90,000 miles and craigslist is usually on the cheaper side.

Kelly blue book on a perfect condition 906mile car is $10,600 add 10% if you'd like for gotta have it factor... $11,660. ABSOLUTE MOST i'd pay.
Shit for 26 grand I'd rather buy one of those for 9g you see on craigs list and have 16 grand left over to build the motor and modify it in any way you could ever want. By the time you're done with 16k you could have a pretty much brand new motor built and turbo'd, all new bushings, joints, axles, hubs, brakes, bearings, re-appolstered interior, new paint... I mean the car could be so much better than what that one is. for the same or less money.
NO INSURANCE company will pay out 26grand for that car if it were unfortunately totaled or stolen.
Whatever the insurance would assess it at is the max I'd pay.
Even though there are things like gap coverage it wouldn't work THAT big of a gap.

Just asked them about the never been titled warranty, and about the KBB value regarding their asking price and here is their reply:
Dear ------,
I thought that this would be the case also, but they are saying that since it is a 1999 it wont have the factory warranty. Everyone is talking about this 11k that kbb says. Listen, I dont care what any book says about this car. This will be a car that will require cash to buy it, and we are not in any hurry to get rid of it. It is beautiful and will probably be a collector car someday. I seriously doubt that the person who buys this will drive it. The lowest they will take on this Prelude is 23k. Thanks

It should, but it doesn't. The way the dealer sees it, doesn't matter beacuse they are hoping or expecting that the buyer has no intentions of actually driving the car anyway.

Unless there are pictures of Jessica Alba spooning Keira Knightley naked in it, it is a:
Collector Car FAIL.
