99 porsche boxter vs. 99 mercedes slk230
if ya had to choose, which one would you pick and why? both in black, btw. i have decided that since i have this kickass job, i'm gonna get one of these this spring. the ones i've been looking at have been between 17 - 21k. i've driven both before, but i don't know anyone who's owned either one of these, so i don't know what they'd be like long term. anyway, so yeah... discuss.

Drifting
Both cars are somewhat feminene for my tastes, but if I had to choose one, It'd be the Boxter, mainly for looks, the SLK looks too shortened and stubby. However the power hardtop is a pretty good feature to have. Tough choice, but I'd take the Boxter.

Sorry porsche hands down. Have driven in the SLK's and not impressed at all with the car. Slow, handled average, sounded like crap and just not that great looking.
A porsche will always be a porsche.

Stay or leave
I just like seeing girls in either, nothing worse then driving up next to one of those and its a man.
If I had to pick, porsche. The SLK just looks to much like a death trap

Actually just remembered. Coincidentally enough the girl who's car it was traded her SLK in for a boxster. She loves the boxster

Yeah,
there are much better Mercedes and it's becomming too typical to see women in slk's.
I love Mercedes, but in the case I'd go with the Porsche.
You're gonna' turn some heads this spring young lady

Anyway, the Boxster can be had with a manual tranny. I don't think the SLKs had that option until '01 or something like that. I'd get the Porsche just for that. But we all know I'm a nut...

Get the Boxster still. I think it says "I have teh kickass job" better.

Boxster by a landslide. The MB is a wanna be sports car that has very poor chassis dynamics. The Boxster doesn't get a lot of respect, widely considered a womans car (what ever that is) and I understand that isn't really an issue here, but 99.9% of the people who think the Boxster is weak have NEVER driven one, particularly on the track. If Porsche gave the Boxster a few more horses they would be right up on the 911 Carrera's butt on the track. Bottom line it is an awesome car and in capable hands it is a terror in the twisties!

The only thing I don’t like about the boxster is that the back window is made of plastic. The few that I’ve seen had the back window all blurry/yellowish. Maybe the newer ones are different but thats my

I would take the old SLK (I had a 6MT 320) over the old Boxster, unless it was a 2003/4 with a glass rear window.
The new boxster, hands down, although, the new SLK is nice, too.
The old Boxster is a dog, too. 1999, has a plastic rear window, small wheels and tires.

If you're thinking about a Boxster of that age to purchase, get the 2000 model (or later) instead. For the 2000 models, Porsche updated the standard engine from a 2.5L flat 6 with 202 hp to a 2.7L with 217 hp and a flatter torque curve. In addition, the suspension was tweaked, gears tightened, and little interior touch-ups.
In 2000, they also introduced the Boxster S that has a 3.2L with 250 hp, loads more torque, a 6-speed tranny (instead of the base model's 5-speed), much tighter suspension, more appropriate brakes with larger rotors with beautiful red calipers, 17" wheels standard (over the base 16" wheels), a third inlet on the front facia for additional radiator cooling, and distinctive twin exhaust pipes.
