98 Honda Prelude

Just bought a 98 Honda Prelude with 110k miles. What kind of maintenance should I have done? The spark plugs and oil were just changed and the brakes are good to go. I know timing belt needs to be replaced soon correct? If so, how much should I expect to pay for that service?

yes, the timing belt should be replaced as preventative maintenence and it can cost you anywhere from $500-$1000, depending where you go.

It should be around $400-500, but check to see if Prelude owners also change out their water pumps at the same time as a preventative measure; my regular mechanic and others recommend that on the Integras' 2nd timing belt change.

If the parts are cheap, while changing the timing belt I would suggest changing the water pump, cam and crank shaft seals, and the accessory belt(s) while you have it apart. It should be easy to find a mechanic that would do the work on the side. Otherwise a shop will try to charge for each thing done. It may also be easy to find a good write up on the internet to do the work yourself. You could save some money and get very familiar with your new ride...

If it has an auto tranny then, save up some money for its eventual rebuild/replacement. If it has a 5MT then

if you gotta buy any parts, now or in the future, be sure to find a place to buy honda parts online to save yourself some money.

Other than that, I agree on changin the water pump while they're in there. I did the same on my integra and CL.

My son has a '98 type SH, loves the car, and it's been maintenance free (he repalced the belts etc as above, and no other issues at all. Enjoy!

as long as you didn't get the auto tranny, the H22 should last for a while..
