98 accord V6

anyone know these cars? I have an 00 TL and 02 S2k...and my buddy with a red 98 accord V^ says he can dust both of my cars...something tells me the accord has less HP and torque than the 00 TL-P, am I wrong? Will it be a pointless race for me in either car?

the V6 is the same engine as the 97-99 3.0CL.............S2k will surely waste him, not positive about the TL.

unless he has a s/c or nitrous you should take him in the TL or s2k.

That's what i thought...I didn't think it would be a problem in either car...my buddy is trying to tell me that his accord will whoop on any S2k or Z3 or SLK out there because they are all 4 cylinders...(I had to laugh here) and that the accord and TL share the exact same engine, so his would be faster cuz he has more mods...anyone know what the numbers are for this engine?

My TL is supposed to be 225 at the crank...I guess the accord V^ is 200 at the crank...so there really shouldn't be much of a comparison...his car can't beat either of mine...he has CAI, exhaust, and headers. Well, I know that the S2k beats him...we just went out for a break from work and went for a little cruise up the highway nearby...NO comparison...hahaha...it was great...although I kinda WAS expecting the accord to keep up a little better. It wasn't fr behind, I just expected it closer. Now I have to drive the TL in tomorrow and see wtf is up...haha...thanx guys!

Saying he can beat an S2K with an AV6 is just talking out of the arse, so to speak. My Maxima cant beat a well driven S2K and can destroy a 6G AV6.

But a well driven 6G AV6 w/ I/H/E should be to take a TL-P. Let us know how the TL-P race goes. Be safe.

hahaha...that's what everyone else thought...he's just blowin smoke...his is an auto anyway...and if i'm not mistaken that gen accord has no manual for the V6...

I believe it about your maxima...my boy has an 02 auto...and those things are WAY faster than they look! I can see one of those dusting an accord...I'll keep anyone who's interested posted on how the TL-P does...

So I had a little run with my boy in my TL-P...and we were really neck and neck the whole time until about 75 or so when he started to pull away little by little...I was really disappointed! I expected the TL-P to hang on WAY better than that!

Well considering he is modded i could see that happening. Slap some mods on yourself and it'll be a different story.

hahaha...yeah, I guess so. But even with CAI, exhaust and headers, he shouldn't be topping 225 hp, right? Which is the TL-P's stock numbers...If anything i thought we would have been dead even...

I believe the headers/cai/exhaust could add about 30 hp to the wheels.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I dont think I/H/E will yield an add'l 30whp on a J30A1 Accord. That would mean about an add'l 35hp @ crank (or 10hp more than the TL-P). If that were true, pooh's friend would have ripped him a new one right off the line (especially since the AV6 is lighter), not a gradual pull at 75mph+.

Actually 30hp at the wheels is about right. The difference here is the transmission. The auto 5spd in the TL is about 1/2 sec faster in the 1/4 mile than the same engine with the 4spd and 5 less hp (99 TL). Dead even is about right as the Accord is prob in the low 15s now, which is what the 00 TL runs stock. 75mph is where the gearing advantage of the TL starts to dissapear, which explains the slight walking away.

It's a bit optimistic to think that I/H/E would add 30hp on a J30A1.

Pooh, does your friend have all Comptech mods?? (Those are the only mods I know of that are possibly capable of such gains, though IMO they're extremely expensive.)

no comptechs

F23A4...my buddy's got Injen CAI, comptech exhaust, and comptech headers. So yeah, I guess he has the comptech equipment where it counts. hahaha...he's a spoiled brat anyway...the only way he got all those parts was because he acts like a perfect little christian boy around his extremely over-religious grandma. But this guy's a complete @ss everywhere he goes...even on the road (which I do not condone )They are nice, but way too expensive for me to justify. I would personally rather put that couple of grand towards some more mods. He's working on getting himself a Rev Hard turbo kit...guess I had better catch up on some of these mods!!!

Sounds like he just may have a HP advantage on you afterall. AFAIK, Comptech mods are no joke when it comes to HP/TQ gains.

If he goes FI, maybe you should consider buying his I/H for your TL. He wont need them with FI and I think they're compatable with the 2G TL. (But, correct me if I'm wrong on that)

Let us know his progress. (And tell him to stop playing his grandma. )

ouch...

My buddy just got that rev hard turbo kit in the mail...it's getting installed this weekend...I think I'm a goner now. I'm looking into the comptech supercharger for my S2k...I think that should take care of things...I finally convinced him to take it to the track, so now we're going to head up to ATCO raceway in New jersey and see how well his accord will do against my car...hehehe...hopefully one of my boys has a camcorder he can bring..this is gonna be fun!!!

Sorry, I've only gone to Atco once. So I'm not certain when's a good time to go there. I typically go to Etown (Old Bridge, NJ) to do my runs.

Is that a relatively safe place to go for runs? I would hate to take a would be easy run through a quiet street only to be pulled over...

6th gen Accords tend to dyno on a Dynojet at around 155-158 whp. I/H/E might get you up to the high 170s but it's very difficult.

I was thinking the same thing with gearing. The first 3 gears on a TL-P is definitely an advantage. Also the low end torque on an Accord is horrid thanks to the VTEC-E cams. Off of a roll he might've had a larger gap on you. 75 mph or so is about right when the Accord might get it's advantage.

If you race him off a dig to like 60 you'll own him all day.

Is this kit installed yet? Almost every 6th gen Accord V6 that's gone turbo has blown their tranny. So don't worry his car won't be up long. I didn't know that their was a produced non-custom kit for the Accord since most companies feared the tranny. Could you give me more details on this kit please.

the accord with those mods will def take your TL-P if it is stock... not but much, but it will take it. i used to fuck around with my friends accord in my TL-P and if i got a bad start he would just manage to take me.
