i raced a lightly modded mustang gt (5.0 v8 1991 style) with my 98 eclipse gst. I was pulling on him till about 55, then he walked right past me like I was standing still. no replacement for displacement i suppose

This pussy in an eclipse tried to race me last week. I'm with a friend going for lunch on a tuesday. This poser lines up next to me and gives me the "look" to race. I was looking for places to eat and not really paying attention to him. Then he puts his hands up and waves at me (really gay- does the donald trump "your fired" hand wave) and just takes off. He looked like a real idiot because I didn't even bother to follow or race him.

yer car is fast but how good of a driver are you? You also don't know what mods he could've had installed. Could've been nothing but i've learned not to talk shit on "beater cars" because you can EASILY be beaten.....

Z got spanked. Was gaining on the top end but in any 1/4 or redlight race the gsx won quite easily.

hmm well i thought the z won but maybe i didnt pay attention..you can make eclipses VERY fast. i've seen a modded eclipse beat an e46 m3..

but its engine exploded into bits at the end of the race... ouch.

actually looking at the vid again, the z got beat off the line (AWD advantage to the GSX) but didnt lose any ground after, then walked the gsx...so im not seeing how zapata thinks the z got spanked..

They start racing at 0:52 and the z doesn't catch up until 1:17. That's 25 seconds. Cosidering each car should run about 14.0 1/4 time that's an additional 11 seconds and i'll even spot you the 1 second for shitty drivers/weather etc., There is still 10 second gap. So they are running 1/4 plus. I don't want to get into how far they ran total because i suxor at the physics and it gets complicated with the uniform rate of accelaration or lack there off.

Z catches up later on which could be attributed to a number of factors. 1- testemant to the Z's hp/aerodynamic package 2- drivetrain loss of the AWD.

ever been to the track ? Ever raced anyone from a stop light? That was a royal spanking. The Z gets beat by a wide margin in either of the scenarios. The race is what it is. Heavily modified GSX v. stock 350z.....is there any suprise in the outcome?

i've raced from a a stop light, and i've been to the track but i dont see how that relates. this wasnt a track race and it wasnt about 1/4 mile times.

the z never lost ground...yes it got beat off the line and it took around 25 seconds for it to get past the eclipse, but the race was not a 1/4 mile race or a 0-60 race..it says in the beginning of the vid that it was 0-120. the z reached 120 1st. had the z gotten a better start, i think you would have seen a pretty close to even race until 25 seconds then the z would've overtaken him. the eclipse just doesnt match the torque of the z in the higher gears...even with an upgraded turbo...drivetrain loss due to awd is not the biggest issue...gearing and torque were the players there....dude i had a gst...no AWD...the thing lost all power after 60 mph...it was geared to do 0-60 sprints.

i agree it was a good race...but the z didnt get spanked. cmon now.

Stock Z's run low 14's! I have the stock T25 turbo(@16psi) w/boltons on my GS-T(FWD) and I can stay with Z's!

i had your same car but stock...after 60 i'd get spanked by mustang 5.0 gt's..etc..not dogging the gst/x but its geared for 0-60 sprints...0-60 in 6.5 seconds were what most could extract from the gst (stock).

what bolt ons do you have?

Yeah, you right. The little stock T25 turbos are not made for top end at all! They spool up fast, however fall on their face after a bit since the boost doesn't hold til redline! You can squeeze more power from them, but they won't last long! Any upgrade plays big in them cars! Even the 14b turbo from the 1st gen(90'-94') Eclipses is an upgrade for the 2nd gens!

Actually the AWD versions have a shorter final drive to make up for the additional drivetain losses some.

With a ported 16G, etc. that GSX should be putting down less power than the 350Z. I'm really curious why someone would add a 16G and not upgrade the intercooler and add some type of fuel management. With those items that GSX would be able to make more power at the wheels, with the drivertain losses taken into account, than the 350Z.

i saw the video. the GSX got a big jump on the Z with all those goodies/mods it had plus AWD. The stock Z was about 1.5 car lengths behind but able to maintain the same speed as the GSX and eventually catch up and pass the Eclipse.

I rather have the Z any day. Add twin turbo and bamn !

You can do that, but easier said than done! You can spend half the money on a GSX/GST and get the same speed out of it as you would a 350Z turbo'ed!

It all depends on the size of the turbo and the setup! I've seen Eclipse well up in the 600hp range to the wheel!
But, to each his own!
To me, the Eclipse let off at the end, that's why you see the Z hit his brakes at the end also! There ain't no way a stock Z will pass a modded Eclipse like that! As I said, they can't do that to me now with my stock turbo!
