Wow! I just don't know how some of the cars that were featured ever made it on that list. And no '69 Camaro SS?!

Don't want to spoil the winner, but really? The best ever US sports car? I don't agree, and I don't agree with 75% of the cars on that list, not to mention only about 5 of them might actually be considered a sports car by definition.

It's fine if you talk about the top cars...there's really no "spoiler" here.

WTF. It's ridiculous that the Talon ranked as high as it did. some writer at Complex is a DSM fanboy. The Eagle Talon should not be breaking the top 25.

I don't agree about #1 either. and yeah, Cobra should be #1

I agree with most of them, just not in the order they were given.

21. GMC Typhoon
Year: 1992-1993

What other SUV do you know has been compared to a Ferrari? That's right, none. Take one part GMC Jimmy, one part Garrett turbocharger, and one part 5.7L small block, and you have a SUV that will act the part of a sleeper and can roll away from just about anything when stepped on.
They had a 4.3 liter V6 that was way more similar to the turbo 3.8 than the 350 small block.

How did the XLR get in that list, as high as it did? It's an over-priced Caddy Corvette.

#6 Ford Mustang 5.0.

Oh, you mean the same Mustang 5.0 that I did not even have to open the secondaries, in my 1970 Impala, to blow into the weeds? How I hated those hunks of junk.

Ok, no Buick GS, I can sort of take that, but no GSX!

Didn't feel like looking through them all but I think 1 and 2 should be reversed. And did they include the S7?

"Sports cars" was definitely improperly used.

"Performance vehicles" perhaps, but too many vehicles in screwed up order.

The 5.0 Mustang has been on pretty much every top 10 American sports car list that I've seen. With good reason...they were affordable, easy to fix up, and sound great.

Actually the Chevy 4.3 is nearly identical to the 350 with a couple cylinders chopped off. Same bore center, same just about everything. The Buick V6 is MUCH more stout.

I loved how the GNX was #9 and the Eagle Talon was #8. So much wrong with the entire list and the "facts", why bother.

This is no diss to the GNX what so ever so don't take it that way. (I actually own 2 G-bodys) The GNX is one of the greatist car to roll out of the General's stable. But pound for pound the DSM is more of a sports car by definition then the GNX. The GNX is more of a quater mile bruiser or a street brawler as with a few other cars on that list. The list is just wacked. Just my opinion. But is was interesting to see DSM make it at least twice on the list. Hmm weird isn't it.

I agree, the GNX is not a sports car and I would not bother arguing the list if so many other non-sports cars were not on it. About half cars don't belong on the list including the GNX. It did pull .91 Gs on the skidpad from the factory in one of the mag tests but that doesn't make it a sports car.

Didn't they use the same block casting as the 3.8, but with more displacement? I've been told the Sy/Ty engine was the same the Astro van with their restrictive heads, but had lower compression pistons.

I totally agree with you there. But hey I would trade both my G-bodys (80' Cutlass and a 84' MCSS) and dsms for a GNX anyday. God I love them cars. Oh and I loved the sales pitch they had for them. "You can get them any color you like as long as you like black". Crap I am now showing my age.

Yes I know, and it disgusts me to no end. Don't worry, it's not just the Mustang that I feel that way about, the Camaro and Firebird of that era earned my ire as well.

It was almost the same as the NA 4.3 in every way. No relation to the 3.8L. They don't share a single part.

The "turbo" 3.8L got a rolled fillet crank but it was the same NA casting. It got beefier "turbo" pistons with an iron insert but they were still cast. Otherwise the turbo 3.8L and non turbo 3.8L were the same. We just got lucky that the anemic 110hp NA 3.8L was severely overbuilt and required very little for turbo use. Even the heads are identical except the turbo heads don't have the valve guide area machined to accept exhaust valve seals and they got inconel exhaust valves.

The 4.3L on the other hand would only touch on 400hp before it needed good internals. The rods were the biggest weak link. The strong point is a set of upgraded heads and some internals were cheaper than the Buick stuff but until you're deep in the 10s, the 3.8L did not need upgrades.
