When I first saw the 09 Maxima commercials and the reference to them being 4 door sports cars, I was thinking to myself- that's a stretch for a FWD sedan.
I didn't think too much about it but then started hearing it in every Maxima commercial.
I came across this pic which is off of an 09 Maxima:
Is Nissan seriously marketing this thing as a 4 door sports car? I just can't see how it qualifies.
Thoughts?

I have owned two 1990 and one 1992 maxima and all three had that little sticker in the window
Personally I have always loved the maximas, when they introduced the 04 model thats when I gave up on them and turned to the TL, but after looking at the new TL and the new Maxima I'd take the later any given day

I saw one on the road today with that on the window. I thought it meant something about 4wd The Maxima is not 4wd, wtf?
Now that I know what it means.....it seems to fit
It looks very sporty. What exactly qualifies a car as a sports car? I mean the Civic Si is considered a sport compact and it's FWD.

As JNC said, the early '90's models were touted as "4DSC"'s as well, and there were stickers on the windows too...
IMO the '09 looks ehhh in pictures, but definately sharp in person. The front takes a little getting used to, but overall I think it was a good execution on Nissan's part. I give them for the '09!

I drove behind one a few days ago on I95 and ironically the 05 maxima was driving alongside it, the 09 looked eons better. The most prominent design feature is the shoulder line along the side, very prominent and esthetically pleasing .

4DSC is merely a marketable signature. the 90s maximas scored no differently than the original legends. it is completely understandble as to why they are reviving this in todays market.

The old ones are a lot of fun to drive. I actually still like them. But the new one doesn't come in stick = not a true sports car
Even worse, its a CVT. Besides those things though, I still like it a lot inside and out (except for the sickle cell headlights) even though its FWD.

The old ones had floaty stock suspension but it was better than other sedans in the early 90s. Lowered 90-94s handle pretty well, they had independent suspension all around. Every single Maxima after those had a torsion beam rear, I think even the new one does too.

I prefer the 03 SE Titanium better. I saw a red 2009 as well and love the way it looks. I just can't get used to CVT. Is it the only gearbox available or can one get a conventional automatic?

Like others have said 4DSC has been on the Maxima for pretty much forever...at least since the late 80's.
Too bad Nissan is cutting Maxima production.

My parents bought a brand spanking new one in June and I saw it for the first time this past week. It looks 100x better in person. It rode very nice as well. I liked it much more than I thought I would. Would I call it a 4 door sports car though? Nope.

Sadly only CVT, no other transmission options at all. A 6-speed manual would be great.... hopefully they continue the trend to downsize the Maxima, give it independent all around suspension, a manual transmission option and it'll truly earn the 4DSC moniker instead of just using it as a marketing gimmick.
