370Z vs. Beer Goggles

I don't know what it is. Around 3 months or so I started liking the 370Z. Initially I thought that it looked goofy and over-designed. Now when I see one on the streets it is starting to look, well..., exotic to me. All of the aspects of it's design that made me not like the Z, the boomerang head and taillamps, the exaggerated hatchback slope and those horrible vertical door handles, all of those design aspects I find sporty and unique now. It is weird how cars grow on you over time.

370Z hasn't really grown on me yet, but im waiting. Its probably because I dont ever see them.

4G TL however has grown on me, probably because I see them alot more all of a sudden.

S5?

Cars definitely grow on you. When the Panamera came out I though it was just about the ugliest car ever. Now I love them.

It's still not growing on me. Best Z I think to date thus far has to be the 300ZX TT.

The base model has grown on me, but I think the Nismo is where the car really shines for its looks.

After seeing this car, the thought of a 370Z has definitely crossed my mind on occasion.

Though I'm not a fan of spoilers, this car needs one. The rear of the Z car needs more visual weight.

I like the round end with wide fenders. Reminds me of a 930 Turbo

i find the 370z to be one of the most disgraceful designs for a mainstream sportscar. its 100% gimmicky, with NO basis for how the design was conceived.

imagine doing a study for it? you wouldnt even know where to start. its just a blank canvas littered with ridiculous nissan elements. theres just no...logic, or purpose for the scheme...take an audi design sketch for example - every surface of the car is created by reproportioning an overlay of rectangles. it is almost a geometric piece of art. thats good design.

I like the 370z, I think it looks much better than it's predecessor. I don't like the nismo front bumper however.

And yet, despite all that it works really well

Since the A5s are still around $40k for used 2008s, I think the 2009 370Z at around $30k used is a steal.

I would go get one tomorrow if $30k was all I had to spend on a sports car.

I really like the 370Z overall but I still find the front end quite ugly. I really like the way it looks from the back. I hate sharp A-pillar/roof kinks in general and on a car as curvy as the 370Z it just doesn't work.

As far as the 4G TL reference, THAT hasn't grown on me yet........and as we approach year 3, I don't expect it will. (07-08 TL-S FTW)

Love the 280Z in EVERY way. I mentioned the sharp A-pillar kink and I noticed a while ago that it was something that they carried over from the old-school Z's. It happens to fit the Datsun Z's character more than the Nissan Z's though, the Datsuns had sharp edges that flowed together well.

I hate looking at the 370Z from the side because I notice that little detail EVERY time... ugh. It's just me, too.

Unfortunately not every part of the 280 will carry over to the 370, but the spirit is there and thats what matters. They stayed true to their idea of the z car and it works well.

Like most new cars on the road, they do not appeal to all mainly because of the unwillingness to adapt to change. The "if it aint broke dont fix it" idea, but if we all followed that there woudnt be change and believe me, change is good.

Of course. You can't expect a 30+ year old car to be like a car that's.... well, 30+ years newer. Like you said, many new cars do not appeal to all. I'm sorta in the middle on the 370Z. It's like a girl with a weird face and a really nice body. Had plenty of time to see this in person, a friend of mine has one and I've seen more than I can count. A test drive might sway me one way or the other though

What do you mean by the right direction? You mean those countless reviews complaining that the VQ is harsh when its thrashed about at high RPMs?

Personally, I like the profile and silhouette of the 350Z over the stubbier 370. Has a more mature look, less boy racer. Although that red one above looks tasty.

Then for any of these reviews, press "Ctrl + F" then type in "harsh", "coarse" or "thrash" and it will lead you right to a descriptor of the 370Z's engine at high RPMs.

Apparently the automatic dampens a lot of it and makes the 370Z a lot more refined. But why would you get an automatic sports car? One member said that it goes away after break-in, supposedly. There seems to be complaints about visibility and non-engine related NVH too. Again, it will take a test-drive to know either way and typically in most car reviews you don't hear complaints about thrashy-ness or harshness unless it's a 4-cylinder.

When I hear the word "thrash" I think of fart-canned Civics that go "BWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAHHHH"

I had that issue with the 350...sat in one and felt rather unsafe...could hardly see anything behind me. Haven't sat in a 370 since Nissan wasn't at the auto show last year, so I'm looking forward to the show this weekend...hopefully it's better, but from the outside in, I'm doubting it.

Only downfall----when will there be a 390Z?

I have sat in a 350 and wasn't "that" imressed. I mean, it was nice for what it was, but definitely not upto my expectations. Maybe I'll go find a 370 to drive this weekend lol
