350z or SVT Cobra

my boy has a deposit on the 350z and they just told him he may have to wait til next year for it, so he went to look at the Mustang SVT Cobra and likes it but for 36,000 with a 5,000 markup on top its a lil much for a mustang even tho it has 390 hp. He loves the power but not sure its worth it and loves the 350z but dont wanna wait. What u guys think? wait or spend the 40,000 for the mustang now.

5k over for the mustang is nuts, i mean come on it is a mustang.

tell him to shop around to different dealers for the Z, he may be able to find one more soon.

Maybe try searching other dealerships in the area. Imo, I would not go with the Mustang as the resale, even if its S/C'd with 390hp. The 350Z is a nicely done ride but too bad about the waiting period.

The mustang for sure. It will be a collectors item soon enough....the Z is just the "flavor of the month"....they'll be all over the road soon enough!

As much as i love the 350z...i wouldnt wait a long time for one..as someone else said...The way they are priced, they will be everywhere just like the TL......

I would go with the Cobra...nice looking ride...FASSSSSSST..... flat out BAD ASS ride.

Win Win situation though..two good choices in cars if you ask me.

This isn't the 1960s... The day a NEW Mustang becomes a collector item, is the day I eat my shoe.

I would personally wait on either of them... I mean, with winter around the corner, why pay up for the the car now??

I'm sure next year you could get either of those cars cheaper, and the dealers will them in stock... I don't see the point in hurrying into right now... but I have no idea of this guy's situation either.

Mustang.......

he should play w/ the dealer on the price, the SVT is in demand but not $5000 over MSRP in demand. im sure he'd be able to get them to lower the price.

or

he could shop around for both and you never know what youll find.

hey some good lying could do it, say another dealer quoted you at 2500 over msrp and tell him if he can do 2000 you'll go with him. Worth a try.

But remeber american cars resale value is crap so with the z still being sold out their value will hold up really well.

of the 2 I'd take the Mustang but has he thought about the WRX Sti. I'm really excited about that FINALLY coming to the USA. it's like 325 HP(and for like 3-4 grand you can have that thing B!TCHIN') plus with a custom turbo and intercooler setup i bet he could run with a Cobra. plus WITHOUT a doubt he'd own anyone through curves. plus I don't know the price of the WRX but i think it's in the price range of your boys.

I told him waiting 5 more months for the Z is crazy as is 5000 markup for the Cobra so do some more searching for the cars and any others he likes.

The STi most likely won't be worth the amount it costs over a regular WRX. He'd be better off getting a WRX and modding it beyond STi numbers.

Go for the Z. Mustang is still a mustang no matter whether it's the Cobra SVT or GT or the base, I don't see any difference. If he doesn't want to wait that long, get Infiniti G35 coupe, it has pretty much the same performance with two more seats in the back.

The Z!

More comfortable, reliable and it's not a cheap ass Ford. The Stang's selling point is speed, but it sacrafices more important things...

sorry bro after th 60's there is no collectors stangs, and like i don't see enough late model stangs around, oh but i haven't seen a z yet. is the shitty interior, ugly body, no reliability ford really worth the sacrifice for a few extra ponies? not in my opinion...
try other dealerships some have people who back out of their orders..or, yeah, the g35 coupe that is a phat ride

Yeah right........I bought my 93 Cobra for 15K with 30K miles......I TRADED IT IN 2.5 years later with 40K miles and the Acura dealer gave me 15K for it on trade. How many cars car do that. The 03' Cobra will be a collectors car because its the first factory supercharged Mustang. The Z is a nice car, but they'll be all over, and the Cobra would be few and far between. The Cobra is a blast to drive.......no import car that I've been in comes close to an 03 Cobra!!!!

This is an interesting question. I really like the 350z, but I think you'll find it will be a common car on the road as soon as it is being produced/delivered 100%. These 1st few deliverys have $5000 markups on them too. Unless you are a pre-order.

350z= Nicely Balanced, refined, head turner, *lower power*

Mustang= Hot rod, good looks, fast and straight, cheezy interior. But some serious power to the wheels.

IMO pretty much comes down to power or refinement?

I dunno what I would get, personally, I'd like to drive both before making that decision.

My cousin just picked up his Cobra. About 36k with a 100k extended warranty, few dealer options. NO markup. Paying a 5k markup is stupid. Shop around. For 36k, I'd take a look at the G35c. You can't beat the power/$ of the Cobra. The Performance Model Z is nice for the price.

The Z and Cobra are two very different cars for very different drivers. I can't see how someone could compare them.

Tell your bro to get the 03 cobra. there noway u can beat the 03 cobra with the z. also with the 03 cobra i'm sure it will be a good race with Z06.

plus i am part of the term doing electrical stuff for 03 cobra.

If it were me I'd base the decision on how long I plan on keeping the car. The Mustang will depreciate more sooner. The Z will hold its value longer. If you plan on keeping the Cobra for 5 or more years I'd go with it. The longer you keep the Mustang the Z will come closer in depreciation.

If it was up to me i'd go with the Cobra however i wouldn't pay 5k over MSRP. Shop around and if a deal can't be found i'd say wait and check out the G35c.

I looked at the Cobra and couldn't fit my legs under the steering wheel. For 40K, I'd get a vette.

I know this is slightly out of your range but if you can find a Chevy dealer that will deal I'd recommend a Z06.
a Z06 would smoke a Cobra and a Z . Plus you can't get much more of a American classic than a vette

plus this is about the only american car i think the quality "decent"
