In everyday driving both cars are great.

If both cars were the same price, I too would pick the BMW 330 over the G35 sedan however, the coupe looks oh so good (If it were an M3 though, the G35 wouldn't stand a chance )

Just for the record, let me state that I do like the E46 BMW (particularly the coupes) and what Crazy Sellout posted (re: BMW owners buying them over and over again) seems to be true based on BMW owners that I've known over the years. BMW has a LOYAL following of folks that would stick with the brand even if it has Yugo quality.
Confession: I'll be the first to admit that I'm VERY biased in favor of cars Made in Japan, owning an 02 Maxima and 05 Murano. (The MO is brand new but the Maxima's only problem was a bad MAF sensor years ago.) So I'm a little leery about German cars (in general) and the ratings JD Power and CR have placed on BMWs and MBs does not help this leeriness.
Sidenote: I'm pretty impressed with Lincoln's ranking in the JDP VDS.

BTW, 100% on the M3 comment....on that I'd consider paying $10k over the G35C's MSRP for an E46 M3. No brainer on that one.

I remember the problems the Maxima had with the MAF sensor.

I've driven the G35C 5AT before and now having driven the 330i, I'm actually leaning a LOT towards the 330i now. Taking nothing away from the G35C (arguably the best sports coupe to ever come from a Japanese automaker), that 3-series is pretty amazing in terms of balance, handling, acceleration and even quality.

The new Z06 will be faster than a Ferrari, so there's no reason to spend another $140,000 for the Ferrari. People can buy cars because they LIKE that specific car, not because it has a better value.
The 330ci ZHP ran a 14 flat with 235 hp, I would love to find out what this one can do with 255 hp. When I say performance, I mean overall performance, not 0-60 and 1/4 times. They are not designed for that. But just like they said "But the BMW's superior grip helped it deliver the fastest lap times despite the Infiniti's clear power advantage. Whether on the track or on the road, the 330i was the most composed and the easiest to drive fast." That's what I consider performance.

Also, i dont get what you guys are saying about bmw's having more comfort. The seats are really stiff. My dad was so set on getting a 750i and so we went for a test drive last week. Basically, my dad was really disappointed. The seats were really stiff and the comfort level wasnt that great. He asked the salesperson why the seats were so stiff and all the guy could say was
bmw's are set for one thing...performance" There wasnt any mention of comfort and luxury. After that, we went to mercedes to test drive the s class, and the seats were nice and comfy....way better than bmw. When comparing japanese cars to germans, the comfort level is definetely better in japanese cars.
