But you aren't taking bad photos...and what you are taking is pretty damn crisp. A new lenses would certainly enhance that.

What are you looking to achieve?

Good glass costs money
I got this from Accuratein's pic thread...I'd like to take night shots like this.

I think Eric used his Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 for that shot. You'll just need to find a comparable lens for your Canon

Are you using a tripod or handheld for your night work?

Best bet to help you for that is a tripod...and use the timer setting so NOTHING is touching or bumping the camera. This will let you stick with lower ISO choices, slower shutter speeds (longer exposures) and wider apertures.

Glass will still make a big difference...but night work can really be affected by the sensor.

Those night shots aren't bad to be honest. I'd still say get a good lens and practice with that.

^^^

my camera bundle kit came with a little remote and for night shots I use that....as Sarlacc mentioned, I have noticed, even if I press the click button while on the camera, my stupid fingers move it enough to add some blur in the pix....

Yeah I was using a tripod but I was hitting the button each time. I'll try using the timer setting next time. I will eventually take your advice and pick up a new lens.

Need some advice. Some of you already know I'm in the military and I just got orders to Dollar Bay, Michigan. Its about 4-5 hours NORTH of Green Bay, Wisconsin...yeah..exactly. Not sure what I should do with the Charger. Of course the winters will be harsh having to deal with snow and salt getting on the paint. Trying to decide whether I should sell it or stick it out for a few years up north.

Keep it, store it in the winter, and get a beater to drive while it's stored.

Will the car be okay sitting that long in that temperature? Some friends have already told me to get an engine block heater.

I mean, it's gorgeous and fantastic, but it's still just a car...get it winterized (hope I'm using that right, I live in Florida ) throw some dedicated winter/snow tires on some stock steel wheels and set one of your air presets to "SNOW drive height" and call it a day. You pay for it, you might as well enjoy it!

If over time the salt rusts the nuts/bolts of the suspension etc, will you care in 10 years? You really think you'll even still own it in 10 years?

Well, considering the only dumbass that told you to drive it anyway was a Floridian.

Get a winter beater.

I think the engine block heater is if you plan to drive it...keep it plugged in.

You'll need a trickle charging or unhook the battery...

I bet you can find lots of threads on the LX forums about winterizing your car and storing it for the winter.

Your Charger is too nice to drive year-round, plus with the RWD. That's pretty far north. I suggest a winter alternative as well.

Best of luck to you. I'm sure that will be a huge change. Ever lived in a cold climate before?

HEY..... There is nothing wrong with Green Bay Wisconsin

Keep it. Yea there are 4 months of the year you will want to take the nice wheels off and have a set of winter tires but the car will do fine. Snow and salt wont hurt the paint, just keep it waxed good and wash it

The only reason you would need an engine block heater is if the car were to sit outside in - deg weather and you planned on driving it. I dont have one on any of my vehicles and we just had a bout of -15 to -25 deg f weather and every one of my vehicles started just fine.

And isn't there something where they spray the undercoating with some sort of oil/protectant to keep the salt from corroding anything too?

See, now my suggestion has some credibility. Honestly, I just put so much blood sweat and tears into my car that I couldn't fathom not driving it. And at the end of the day, no matter what, I have an internal struggle with getting a car to the point where I'm afraid to use it for it's intended purpose.
