2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee...thoughts?

Not looking to buy, although if i was in the market, i would snatch one in a heartbeat.

Just curious to see others opinions.

Ive been a huge fan since the 96 JGC, but the new one is truly pushing the bar in quality and design.

I really like the new GC and the ad campaign is pretty good, too. In case you haven't seen it:

yup, very inspiring. America: The Story of Us + Jeep :tomato:

Saintor 08-05-2010 09:48 PM

Big improvement.

But 4800lbs+ and a peaky base engine don't mix. 260lbs-ft is at .... 4800rpm!

Sarlacc 08-05-2010 09:49 PM

I've driven one. I loved it. Very nice in and out.

If I could swing it I'd buy one for the wife.

AMUA6 08-05-2010 09:54 PM

^^^ Buy one for me! :wish: I actually looked an 04 GC before the TL but I wasn't too impressed.. Athlough, I LOVE the 11 GC

pssh, bet most of those parts in the Jeep arent even American made. :tomato:

I like the new one so far though.

Gfaze 08-05-2010 11:22 PM

Looks like a beefier Ford Edge.

majin ssj eric 08-05-2010 11:33 PM

I like it alot and can't wair for the new SRT-8 version!

jim165 08-05-2010 11:47 PM

Saw one at the dealership and even in base Laredo trim, its designed extremely nice inside and out. Its been added to my short list of possible new car purchases... and amazingly 80% of those on the list are American with no Honda products...

+1

Looks like a Ford Edge in front.

MrX123 08-06-2010 12:54 AM

I really like it. I was a HUGE fan of the original one (Especially the post MMC ones), and not so much the others. This new one, however, is SICK! It would seriously be on my list were I looking for an SUV and had a 45k budget. The base engine is acceptable, if nothing else, but I don't care cause mine would have a Hemi in it.

JS + XES 08-06-2010 02:28 AM

meh

princelybug 08-06-2010 02:41 AM

It's a big improvement from the last one.

Spike TL 08-06-2010 06:03 AM

I'd buy one. They are not to bad looking.

SeekDPR 08-06-2010 07:00 AM

It looks good. I drove a last gen and was not impressed at all. I wonder if they will do a SRT version.

AMGala 08-06-2010 07:02 AM

It's a great looking vehicle!

dallison 08-06-2010 07:23 AM

best looking one yet.

knight rider 08-06-2010 07:28 AM

It is amoung my favorites in SUVs, design-wise but as a Jeep it is waay too expensive. And the gas mileage sucks.

The key here is to either buy one used, or wait for the inevitable monster rebates to come about a year into the model run...score!

007Acura 08-06-2010 08:02 AM

unless your constantly going off road i don't think it's worth $41,000 in v6 overland trim

I do like that it shares the Mercedes ML platform

JediMindTricks 08-06-2010 09:05 AM

been a huge fan of grand cherokees since the mid 90s. love the new ones. i'd definitely look at it. that and the new explorer.

charliemike 08-06-2010 09:06 AM

The leather in the picture of the interior looks awesome. I'm a huge fan of that color.

The JGC is one of the last remaining SUVs that is really meant for off-roading. But if you rarely or never do that, isn't your money best spent elsewhere on a CUV?

06cmv6 08-06-2010 09:43 AM

best looking grand cherokee to date IMO...i would buy one for looks alone

justnspace 08-06-2010 09:45 AM

make sure to get an srt8!

Infamous425 08-06-2010 12:16 PM

i loved how it looks in pictures until i saw it in person. so bland. not ugly but just very bland.

Here comes a question from somebody with zero Mopar knowledge: Does anybody have an idea of how durable the 5.7's are? How about the drive line?

My dad is in the market for an SUV, and he really likes this one, on paper at least. We haven't driven it, but plan to next week once the 5.7 rolls into the dealerships.

The 5.7's are solid. They have been using them for a long time now. And have and will have lots of aftermarket support. Even for the Jeeps.

The new pentastar v6 (which these feature) are supposed to be really good, too. Light years better than the current POS V6 they use.

phile 08-06-2010 06:17 PM

I love the new JC. the silhouette is the perfect look for an SUV.

Yup. They depreciate quite a bit. Still, there is the gas mileage thing (I think the SRT8 gets like 8 mpg). BUT I have to say the Cherokee is like a 3 Series Bimmer. It gets better every time.

Good to hear. It's amazing how many people still have the "It's a Chrysler, It's a peice of shit" mentality...

LuvMyTSX 08-07-2010 03:13 PM

It actually looks pretty nice, but I've only seen the commercials, not one in person yet. Even the interior looks much improved from previous generations. Just seems really expensive, though.

FiftyFive 08-07-2010 04:01 PM

I think it looks fantastic in and out.

Fireguy0826 08-07-2010 05:12 PM

I like it. But too much $$$

Talbot 08-23-2010 12:21 PM

I have always had a place in my heart for GC's, but the 2011 excites me. :D
