2010 Porsche Zentrum

My friend and I went to the porsche test drive event over the weekend, and all I can say is the rich are allowed to have fun. So my buddy and I were headed to Carmel (if some do not know, it's near Pebble Beach, and it's were the rich retire) and as we were driving my Watsonvillle, we noticed the usual high number of highway patrol. This reminded us the number of cops that were down there, so we were not too excited about the test drive which was going to be on public roads.

However, when we got to Carmel and talked to the staff, they said the cops won't be pulling any one of us over. They know this was a car event week and we doing test drives. I was excited. I was even more excited when the porsche staff informed us that we will be able to take the cars on the twisties. So I got into my manual drive cayman s high revved it up the mountain backroads!!

Boy can the cayman handle. My friend was a part-time track instructor, so he was able take the car up to 100mph. We were both impressed on how well the panamera can handle, since it's such a long car.

Also, throughout the day, we noticed other cars on the backroads. Apparently, there must have been a aston martin, bentley, and ferrari test drive event going on as well. There were a number of those cars driving very aggressively and quickly on our route as well. One Porsche staff said it was a car event week, and that the day before, there was a Bugatti event and the Veyrons were running around. However, we did not take the time to find out were the event was located, since we had to head back to San Francisco.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I obviously live in the wrong part of the country as we never see this stuff in "Cleveburg".

They make Camaros so the not-so-rich can have fun, too.

Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach last weekend.

Cayman S is a very capable car and the mid-engine layout is exceedingly well balanced.

The carrara white GT3RS with red lettering is a beast.

Did you get to drive the 997.2 TurboS? 500 hp. That metallic ice blue color is very difficult if not impossible to currently order, I believe the TurboS launch cars came in that color designation.

The Verde Ithaca (lime green) lambo is stunning.

They are nice cars, and they drive very well. I have driven a few at GT3's at the race track, and they are just amazing.

I would love to move to a GT3 from my C2S but I am very worried about the daily driving experience. My colleague replaced his front bumper twice and the ride on his GT3 was so harsh he traded it in. The 997.2 GT3s have a hydraulic device to lift the front 10 mm but the ride is still exceedingly harsh and I have a bony ass. I rarely even set my PASM to sport because can I feel every corrugation in the road.

get the turbo! Although not as much of the drivers car as the GT3 RS, its freaking fast!(from what I hear since I've never driven one) But that would not be a bad replacement, no doubt. If you are into the R8 also consider that?

no, i did not get to drive the 997 Turbo S. The sign up process consist of one signing up for a specific car at a specific time. By the time, my friend told me about it, only the 9am Cayman S was available. All the 911s were full, and almost no one bother to sign up for the Cayenne or the Panamera. And yes, you can put yourself on the wait list, but I couldn't spend the entire day there.

Your instructor may have been referring to The Quail & Concours d'Elegance. The Veyrons were more than likely there to attend the unveiling of the North American launch of the SS in a blue carbon fibre finish.

Sounds like a good time.

Is that where the Porsche Driving School is?!?! 2 of my friends from HAW went to the school and said they learned so much. Slalom, wet skid pad, heel-toe, etc. The instructors are supposed to be very capable.
