2008 Acura CLX
2008 Acura CLX
I was driving though Ohio on 70 this weekend and passed a car that had Acura CLX badges on it. It was obviously based on the latest civic 4-door, but had MANY subtle changes and wasn't some half assed badge swap. The tail lights and trunk lid were very different and the front bumper was more angular to accommodate the Acura 5-pointed grille. The sides looked very similar to the latest 4-door Civic Si. Does anyone have info on this car? Is it replacing the TSX? Was it imported or something? I googled it and found only one article that mentioned Acura would be building a CLX model in Ohio next year... but nothing else. If I wasn't going 85 I would have tried to grab a picture.

The base CSX gets the 155 hp K20 similar to the last Civic Si and base RSX. I was wondering where it went, and why USDM models are all-or-nothing: either you get the gutless 140 hp R18, or the 200 hp K20. Maybe they'll drop it into the EX if Civic sales start lagging ... ?

The other ridiculous thing is it's twice as expensive as a base Civic. It can't possibly cost twice as much to build. Sure it has a better engine, nicer interior, and sportier suspension, but it's not like the Civic doesn't come with those parts, they're just not as nice. It probably costs them a couple thousand bucks to turn out a CSX Type-S over a Civic, but they're commanding a $16,000 premium...

The CSX is basically a JDM Civic sedan built in Canada alongside the Civic.
The CSX-S uses the same 2.0L found in the Si. The JDM CTR has a 225HP version. Not to mention none of the structural and weight saving changes that make a Type R a Type R.

Prior to the current Si's debut, I had long commented that Honda should have migrated the RSX from Acura to Honda and renamed it 'Integra'.
