2004 RL $38k?
Hey guys, most of u know that the RL will have a compelte redesign this fall. I have looked on Edmunds and some other car buying sites, and they say that the MSRP is $46, and people are buyng them for $38k.
Would any of you guys pay this price knowing that there is a new body coming out in 4-5 months?

RL is $3500 factory-to-dealer last I checked. $3k under invoice is $38,100. $500 more is $37,600. You could load up a TL past that price. If you want something cushy, big, and luxury, the '04 RL is a pretty strong bargain at that price.
The new RL will be available for under $50k, guaranteed. The MSRP might not change much at all from the current one which is around $46k IIRC.

LOTS of creature comforts .. gotta admit that it's a nice alternative to the E-Class or the Caddy STS if all you want is a cushy ride w/ lots of room & luxury. Plus they're not commonly seen on the road (the newer ones) so that's always a plus.

Again, if you want performance you're looking at the wrong car. You're probably too young for the 04 RL anyway. It's perfect for people in their 50s and up who just want a plush car to drive around in.

Really has nothing to do with me wanting performance. If I was going to pick up a late model car that wasn't going to have great resale value, imo it should have something over the other cars (at its selling price) to make it worth while. For cruising I would get a loaded es300 ~40k. For the best bargain luxury car, I would get the m45.

come on guys, i love the rl even before i own one. 38k for a brand new rl is a bargain. it is a much better built than any tl or cl will ever be. its quiet, and very comfortable. you probably get all the goodies with 38k, like navigation. its not a fast car, but it is an 8 second 0-60 car, which is decent. the RL also was named the most reliable car in its class both by consumer guide and jd power and associate. the only complaint i have is its gas mileage. my best average is 22mpg. some ppl get between average 18-20mpg.

I catch heat from some people who think it's a boring, old man's car, but I think it's quite nice.

My dad paid 38k for his and its a great car. Would I buy the car? No but thats just because i desire different things. But by all means the RL is a great car with a classy look.
It also doesnt FEEL underpowered when driven.
Also Edmunds sucks with their pricing, so if they say their TMV is 38k, then im sure you can get the car for 37k from a desperate dealer, which there are plenty of.

We just got a 04 RL for my grams (guardian) and she loves it. She is like 68 years old though, so its great for her. The dealer was talking about all the new things that are going to be in the 05 and it just didn't seem like she would use all that crap, let alone want to learn how to use it at her age.

At the same time I got my 03 CL (July 2003) my father was looking for a new car. He came to look at the Cl with me and liked the RL. He got a 03 RL for about 35,000.. he didnt want the 04 because they all have Navi and he dosent need it. So we walked out of the place with 2 cars.
I must say that the RL is 100% better fit and finish that my CL. Extreemly solid. Not even comparable to my CL. It rides awsome, has OK power, and has very classic styling. Hell, it worked for Mercedes and Lexus for over 10 years.

The current RL still looks very good in today's standard, not dated at all. However, its mechanical sections show its age.......4speed AT, non-VTEC V6 engine producing only 225hp, 16" wheels, etc......not that many people can see the difference, its just not impressive on the paper. Even so, $38,000 is a good deal, if it comes with the navigation system.
