Saw the topic on FreshAlloy and wanted to share... I'm not quite sure what I think about it yet.

looks like the altima but nissan might be doing that thing now where all of the cars in the line-up look similar.

The new Maxima Solidifies’ my feelings about Nissan. I don't like their style; I Never have and I Never will. I don't care if all there cars have 300+ hp and they are faster than my cl, I still wouldn't buy one.

I was almost holding out on buying my new cr to see what the 2004 Maxima looked like...if even resembles that thing I will get my cl-s tomorrow..no that I needed to much convincing considering what the cl-s offers.

Yeah, I saw that on the Maxima.org forum. The guy who took the picture has some funny comments on his site!! It cracked me up that they slowed from 80 to 30 to AVOID him. LOL... sure, slowing down always loses me . Anyway, like the topic on the maxima board said... that car is a prototype and it is disguised, so even though the front and rear are questionable as to their accuracy, expect the production version to be pretty sweet.....

BTW.. here's the site...

I would wait until the real Max rolls out, not this test model, to pass the ugly judgement although these pictures are deffinetly puke-worthy. But I am sure it will look very similar to Altima as that is the direction Nissan is going towards. I just hope that Nissan does a better job with the quality of materials inside and the overall quality of the vehicle as it will be the first time that Maxima is built on US soil.

This sounds like what BMW owners are thinking of our car

I still dont understand where the Maxima fits from a category perspective now that the Altima has grown as large as an Accord/Camry...and the current Maxima. The Maxima will be around $30K if it is "more" than the Altima. Maybe more depending on options. Why not get a G35 many will think. MOre room? That may be the answer....but still...I just dont get Nissan's new strategy. I trust them though. We shall see soon.

Nissan has had great engine work in the past. Also though, they have had a reputation of having bad interior/exterior design.

well i say that the car there if changed in a few ways could look fairly sweet. and we all know from our moms that its whats on the inside that counts so lets see if the engine/interior is atleast decent before we brown paper bag this date. someone here said that it may be based on the Q45 so we'll see. all it needs done is a new front and rear bumper with different tail lights, from the side it doesnt look half bad. Agreed... With it's size, maybe its target is the Toyota Avalon?

Assuming Nissan will also sell this Maxima as an Infiniti, Nissan's NA sedan lineup will be somewhat hazy. (Altima=>G<=>Maxima<=>I<=>M=>Q?)

BTW, I hope it's just cladding; but the rear view is a dead ringer for a Lincoln Town Car.

What the hell are they thinking. Do they actually think those cars a stylish. I have owned 2 Nissans and I like the company but come on. That is some ugly shit.

At least it's unanimous - no one has taste bad enough to like that giant Altima thing in those pics.

Nissan does not know how to style an automobile. A damn shame...aside from some interior quality/build issues, their cars are generally very good.

This could very well be a test mule, and probably will look nothing like this. But if it does, Nissan will have a lame-duck in the lineup. It's HORRID looking.

We'll have to wait and see.

I dont see the Nissans and the Infinitis sharing platforms any more, now that we know that the I35 will be phased out. Nissans are FWD cars and Infiniti has switched everything to RWD.

Finally, the Avalon is not selling well, so I cant see Nissan going after that car. This is very confusing to me.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that we know that Ford is preparing a Taurus substitute which will be bigger than the current Taurus. And not just a slightly bigger Taurus. It sounds like it will be a category up in size. So could the Maxima be trying to compete with that car (new Ford), which Nissan execs may be thinking of it as being a new segment creator? I dont know.

It's phucking ugly. I bet there won't be a six speed option anymore neither. I at least thought they might base it off the m45 sedan but i guess not. Just phucking ugly. Infiniti's G35 coupe is about the only thing they got that looks decent.

35+ thousand dollar maxima

Well hopefully that wont be the next model, because i was thinkin of going back to nissan after my cl-s lease is up. I have owned a 89 GLE and a 98 Se and loved them both. My dad still has my 89 and the 98 was traded in for a 2001 for my mom. My pop recently went to nissan and they told him that the 2003 maximas are goin to be in the mid 30 thou range and goin to be closer competition to the q45, so maybe even more. In NY, a 3.5 l altima fully loaded is close to 30 now and fully loaded max is almost 33. A move higher in price would put it upwards to infiniti range, which is what they want. That could be the next maxima and if it is, yuck, i dont want it. But if 2003 is nice and still has 255 or more, then ill be drivin it, but still testing it against the Tl-s, and the g35 coupe, which ever my fancy is next year. I may even get a SUV. lets let the next 8 months tell its tale.
