2003 Honda Civic HID lights

I would like to find out the type of bulb that is in my wife's 2003 Honda Civic. Is it an H4 bulb? Does that mean that both the high and low beams are coming from the same bulb? If I get an HID kit, will I have to get a bi-xenon kit for her? Can I get an HID kit that has HID lights for the low beam and the halogen filament for the high beam, all in the same bulb?

I think up until 2003 (before the 2004 refresh), the Civic used a 9003/H4 dual filament bulb.... So yes, you would need a bi-xenon setup to preserve the high beam.

If I did not want Xenon for the high beam, could I just get a dual purpose bulb, one that has xenon (HID) lighting for the low beam and a halogen filament for th high beam?

i've never heard of a xenon/halogen bulb for the lo/hi beams. if in fact your wife's car takes the H4 bulb, you could easily get a bi-xenon bulb because the H4 is the only bulb that has it available. unless you live in a very dark, secluded area though, i wouldn't recommend getting a bi-xenon kit. i have an H4 kit without the hi beams and i've never once wanted to use them, the low beams are definitely bright enough.

Yeah no kidding. I have an HID kit on my Accord, and never once have I wanted to switch over to the high beams. I think there is a kit on eBay that offers a xenon/halogen bulb HID kit combination.

Go to sylvania.com and choose automotive lighting. There you can choose your car and it will list all of the bulbs that are in the car.

No dice. It just lists the Civic 3-door, which is the SI version. I don't think the headlights are the same for the 2003 Civic LX sedan...

I just tried, and one of the options is Civic Exc. 3-dr, which may mean Except 3-door or Excluding 3-door. Maybe that is for the sedan? If that's the case, here is what it lists:

2003 HONDA Civic Exc. 3-dr.

9003ST Silverstar High Performance Lighting: The Whiter and Brighter Halogen
9003XV XtraVision Halogen Upgrade: Up to 30% Brighter

If all else fails, just go remove the bulb from your wife's car and read the model off of it.
