2002 Nissan Maxima SE

I drove a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE today.......I think I'm in . The sound of the VQ, the feel, the leather, OMG

Can be found here: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/id...r_id=179205456

Do you guys think that is a fair price? Should I try and talk him down anymore? KBB is 17,9 for dealers. Anyone else have a Maxima? This thing is loaded, xenons, sunroof, leather, it's awesome. It's basically a four door version of my CL, with a better engine and better options

the maxima is an awesome car. its got everything and alot of aftermarket products for you to go after... i think you can bring it down alittle bit more, but thats a decent price you got right there.. haggle it down and you should have an awesome deal on that!

i dont get what you mean by a four wheel version of your car.. the maxima is a different overall car. my friend has two of them, an auto and manual. i drove both, but i still like the ride and steering of our cars.. shouldnt your CL have everything that the older Max SE's have? unless your talking about an older CL.. but yeah, its an awesome overall car. i would still choose a TL over it, owait, that's exactly what i did!

and about the engine being better, what do you mean? 3.2L V6 Vtec isnt good enough for you??? hahaha

just playing, but yeah, good luck with the deal

I had a 1997 3.0CL Premium. The Maxima is a much better version of my car.

Thats the exact car I wanted when i bought my CLS. The only reason I didnt get a Maxima was because my buddy worked at Acura and hooked me up. Otherwise, i would have been at the Nissan dealership that day and probably posting on some shitty nissan forum somewhere right now.

Price seems fair but I'm defintly not the authority on car price for value. I'd buy it at that price though.

Whats up with the new truck you just bought.

I would get them under 14,500. Trade in value is 12,000 (which is really what the car is worth) so the closer you can get to that number, the better. But it looks pretty good to me.

I see, in that case, I'd go after it.

I love my CLS and all but If I had it to do all over again, I'd buy a Maxima. I need the utility and I want 3 petals again.

The Maxima with the 3.5L VQ is sweet car, even sweeter if you can find one with a 6MT.

Minchy, work the price down, those vehicles are fairly common...but, other than that...the Max is a quality vehicle, built in JPN. Engine is sweet, plenty of luxury & plenty of power for you. Not to mention, the Nissan BOSE system is actually ALL Bose, not piece meal like the Acura crap. The Max Bose stereo is plenty powerful, I believe something like 220 watts...not bad for a stock system, IMHO.

I've had 3 Max's...all SE's. You WILL NOT be disappointed. Go for it.

Seems pricey according to edmunds. http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/nis...tion.1.Nissan*

Love the maxima, the VQ engine is great and won many awards. My mom had 3 of them and were great to own.

The Maxima is a great car. My parents have a 99 SE and it hasn't been to the dealer once other than scheduled maintenance. Great reliable car.

I would pass up on the 2002 SE and get the 2003 SE.. The 2003 looks the same but has the 3.5L VQ vs the 3.0 VQ in the 2002.

The 02 Max has the VQ35 producing 255bhp & ~250 lb/ft of tq. breathing life into it. The engine that needs no introduction. The price is a little high, you should be able to haggle it down some more but don't low ball the dude.

our family has previously owned a 2004 Maxima 5AT and my cousin has an 00 Max 3.0. I have driven both cars and suggest you dont buy a maxima. The car when pushed torque steers all over the place. I hate the fact that it FWD. Granted it does have decent power and a nice interior, if your looking for a fun ride this is not it. You live in Florida for crying out loud, get something that is RWD and sporty. I understand that insurance is an issue, cause i am also young (almost 19). Try looking for like a used e46 4 door (i have a 325xi 5MT and its a blast to drive.) or look for an Audi a4 1.8t. If you do decide on a Maxima try getting a manual.

I'd never buy an E46 that wasn't an M3, I see BMWs as overpriced, and expensive to maintain and modify, also German reliability isn't the greatest. I know I live in FL, and you may think it's all fun in the sun, but during the summer months (which there are about 8 of them, btw) it rains almost every afternoon. RWD isn't fun in the rain, at all. I have to deal with stop and go traffic everyday, so I'd rather not get a manual. I'll eventually get a "fun" car, but I don't need one right now. My dad's 34 Ford Pickup is all the fun I need

You are right.. Strike my last comments. For some reason, I thought only the 2003 model year (old body style) had the 255hp 3.5L VQ... My bad...

BTW, I know a bit about the 3.5L VQ since I own a 350Z.. Awesome engine.

Well, I'm not going to be getting anything. My dad said I'll just take my mom's 04 Accord LX as my new personal vehicle. Whatever

I have a 03 Accord EX (4 cylinder as well). It is a great car and pretty peppy for a 4-banger. Not a bad situation at all.

Not a bad car at all. You just have to watch out for thieves when it comes to the Xenons they take them lights easily off the car. I wouldn't get a A4 1.8t at all that car is slow like molasses. Good luck with the Max if you get it. They look sick with a nice set of 20's

As an 02 Maxima SE owner, I do have to warn you: the power delivery is addictive. I've had mine for over 3 years and it still puts a smile to my face when I apply 1/2 throttle. (FT invokes heavy torque steer though.)

However unlike Minch, I personally dont think it makes any noticeable engine sound (unlike the FX, G35C and Alti SE-R with their dual exhaust outlets). My Maxima makes a throaty sound only because of the Injen CAI.

Outside of a bad MAF sensor (a common problem with the 5.5G) and a bad HU, my Maxima has been largely trouble free (i.e.: no rattles, no paint issues nor any powertrain defects)

My one regret: I wish I'd bought the 6MT but back then, the 6MT was not that common; they seem to be more common with the 2003 model.

But CL Platano makes a good point about HID theft. If you're in the NYC area, I wouldnt heavily encourage getting 5.5G Maxima unless it'll be garage kept; then again, any car with HIDs (3.2TL, 3.2CL, S4, Alti V6, etc,..) is a potential target....it's just that the Maxima is the easiest to snatch. It's pretty much an epidemic here but the problem seems to be pretty isolated in most other areas.

If/when I sell the TLS I will be looking at a Maxima as well. The prev gen has grown on me significantly, especially considering how much I don't like the current gen. I am looking for a manual to learn on and am considering an 01 or 02. Don't care much about leather at this point and I can at least transfer my 18s onto the Max since they do have the same 5x114.3 bolt pattern (not to mention that my offset of +42 is perfect on the Maximas).

HID theft is a concern...especially since the TLS has already been hit once!

Ferizzo, I get that a lot from people I meet in my circles: They like my Maxima but cant stand to look at the new ones. Also, odds of HID-theft with the 5.5G Maxima will probably increase a bit over the TL.

So sad...hopefully it won't be as bad in the suburbs of NC as they are in the mean streets of Boston and NYC! Hopefully I can find a good one for a decent price. I'd prefer the 5.5 (2002+) max but am not as concerned about the power since this car will be primarily for the next three years of transportation. I like the look, reliability, and power of the maximas, especially since I wouldn't be giving up much coming from a TLS.

the 5.5G Maxima is good garage complement to the TL-S: both have ~260hp and are capable of mid-upper 14s but in different ways. If you do get one, stop on over at maxima.org; that forum needs all the CPR (new members) it can get.

She's right though. You have nothing to be down about. You're getting a free car from your parents. Shit, I was driving a 83 Volvo Station Wagon as my first car and then a 91 Volvo Sedan throughout college.

Don't worry man, you'll be making your own money soon and be able to purchase whatever you desire.

I drive a 00 GLE and find it boring to drive over the parents TL. I'm not a person big on mods, but I really like the DDE lights that you can get on 5.5 Maximas. Basicly the Max is almost like driving a V6 Honda Accord EX to me. BUT if it's free and a possible step above your current car go for it. Overall I like my Max cause it's a decent car for a driver my age and I can't complain.

The 00-01 4AT may be boring to drive and drive like a 6G Accord V6 but I can tell you from experience (with all of the above) that the 02-03 (whether in 6MT or 4AT) is only boring if you're used to driving around in cars that run <14-flat ETs.

Like I've previously posted, my 02 Maxima brings a smile to my face everytime I apply the throttle....and I'm talking PT. (Having an Injen CAI and Cattman Y-pipe helps there as well though. ) But WOT=TORQUESTEER!!HOLDONFORDEARLIFE.
