2000 Nissan Xterra

whats up guys,

i need an old SUV to lug around....

i came accross a 2000 Nissan XTerra for $4,999. Great deal, but here's the catch it has 196,000 miles. Do you think i should consider it? I also found a 1998 Ford Explorer for only $3,600.. and it only has 85,000 miles...

opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Wow thats some pretty high miles. It has the VG engine which is a stout engine so I am sure it can go another 200k without any major overhaul. If its going to be a beater, it would be worth getting.

I would stay away anything Ford has IMHO.

A ford with 100k is a Nissan with 250k.

Way too many miles for the Nissan. The Explorer is hit or miss. There are things on the Explorer that need attention to as all Explorers need the same things at some point.
None of the Explorer problems are major, & don't cost alot to fix.
I'd take the Explorer.
The Nissan is a rough ride. It rides like a truck.

Might want to look at 90s Pathfinders. They are very solid and extremely reliable vehicles. 150k is one thing but 200k is pushing the limit unless you know the cars history personally.

I wouldn't be as worried about the engine as I would be about the 4wd system...

Needless to say I still wouldn't buy a vehicle with that many miles..

thats because the xterra is based off a truck, unlike many other SUVs.
