It is certainly nice to build boost at the line; makes for some serious launches if you have the traction.

yep yep, it's fun watching them squat on the line as you hear the turbo start spooling

CAPTION:
"Men In Black had nothing on this ex-FBI Grand National!
Joe's car happens to be one of the almost mythical ex-FBI Grand Nationals. As we've all heard different urban legends (they were TWIN turbo, they had a special chip that would make them twice as fast as a regular GN, etc.)....it's nice to see one in an enthusiast's hands! His car is quite unique in the fact that it is one of the 200 FBI cars used back in the 80's (and one of the last 100 GNs made), Originally from Alexandria Virginia, It was stationed in Ft. Lauderdale and used by the DEA for drug busts. Miamia Vice, eat your heart out!"

I disagree. It's easier to drive consistent with an auto, and an auto is better for a turbo application, as the boost doesn't drop, but otherwise I think a manual is better.
You get more power to the wheels compared to an auto, you can get quick controlled launches and shift faster (both driver skill though)
Imagine an auto S2000? It would be slow as shit from a stop.

Your missing some major things to the automatic transmission...
Quicker shifts (with a shift kit, yes way faster than a manual)
And the torque converter. You can get a torque converter to lock at whatever RPM you want. I had a 3500 Stall converter in one of my older camaros. I.E. like (but better) dumping the clutch at 3500 rpms.
Why did i do that? My cam power-band started there and went to 6k.
Matt's right.
Stock vs. stock your 100% right.
So no, not for just forced induction setups... thats just not true.
My setup had a perfect launch at 3500 rpms (matched to my cam and my intake) and a shift kit, which was a reverse manual valve body. So I had a auto th400 with a manual shift (hurst slam shifter). Shifted instantaneously.

Yes, I am serious. IMO it looks messed up. I can't believe Buick would even consider taking a classic 2 door GN and turning it into a 4 door concept-Dale Earnheart Edition Regal. I guess diff'rent storkes for diff'rent folks.

Until '87, I believe. Well, it was a Cutlass with a 307 that produced ~ 180-something hp. GM put some 442 badging on it and called it a 442. I do, however, like the 15th Anniversary Hurst/OLDS 442 from '83...Lightning Rods an' all.
