This is from two different owners of a 2011 CTS-V:
I've heard of a few 2011's with the same problem...but none from 2009-10 models.
There is also a loud "bang" or "clunk" when I shift into 2nd gear at high RPM's (sounds like metal banging against metal)
Took it in to the dealer and the service managers are still trying to figure out the problem.
That's why I rather get the 09-10 models.

Hands down, IMO. well, actually, if you ask, i would get a 350 and put the savings towards mods.
Something about a rare performance level lexus that says NO to the cushiness of the brand...i like that.
CTS-V doesnt do it for me - look wise. it carries a certain stereotype that is expected of CTS-V drivers. depending on who you are, you may feel uncomfortable having one because of that. just my opinion. clearly, many disagree

For curiosities sake, what stereotype are you talking about? Ive never come across a douchy CTS-V owner. BMW owners on the other hand......

CTS-V has an extremely strong stereotype in the NY tri-state area. CTS-V will pencil you out to the same extent as having, say, a hummer. image is "jersey shore" ish. long island, queens, yonkers, some areas of north jersey - cts-v, fuggaddeboutit.

Hmmm. That must be relatively new. I lived there until '07 and never picked up on that. If anything, most the Jersey Shore types drove Scion TCs or G35/7s and Escalades.

And I love modding cars obviously, but we are talking about ISF vs CTS-V here. I don't think a modified IS350 shouldn't be in the discussion.

Really? Around here, a V makes you pretty cool. I got a thumb's up and a salute from other motorists just yesterday. That's not why I own one, but it is a bit of an attention magnet for car guys. When I park it outside my house (RARE event), people constantly ogle it. That's why parking it outside my house is a rare event.

Really do like the c63 over the m3. I think the c63 beats the m3 when it comes to luxury and power. I've looked pass these two cars due to the long term maintenace cost. I feel that the isf and ctsv will be less expensive to maintain. If I was rich, then it wouldn't matter. Just want more of a vip performance style for my next car. Plan on keeping it for at least 5 years.

I'm in the market for a high performance luxury sedan...pretty much a stock 12 second car as well. These are my top two picks and not quite sure which one to buy. Both are going for the same price too. Probably will be spending up to $5k for engine mods and aftermarket wheels...mostly bolt-on parts.
What is your opinion of these two cars? Which would be more reliable and better quality? Maintenace cost? Which one would you choose as your daily driver? Let me know...later.

Did you ever sit inside the IS? It's a subcompact with an almost useless rear seat, unless you're a midget who's always going to be driving other midgets. I'm 5'8 and I found the front pretty cozy (which I didn't mind) but I usually have my seat pretty far forward and the back was still too tight.
I know this isn't the sort of thing that comes to mind when comparing these cars, but if you have to live with the car it can be a deal-breaker.
