08 Pontiac G8 Vs TL-S
Pictures of the new Pontiac G8 due out this fall.
It will come with a 260hp 3.6 V6 or a 362 V8.
This car is actaully running around right now "down under" as a Holden

Ya, I'm actually on Australia now b/c of work and I've seen these things on the roads and hiways. They're all over the place. They look pretty mean in person and sound like(exhaust note) they don't screw around, LOL. Look wise I prefer the TL-S inside and out(I know, I'm biased to the Acura), but the Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8 has the FR drive layout and that V8 makes it a "fun" car to drive. I would like the G8 more without the hood scoops. I hope to see these in Canada also.

The G8 definitely ranks as one of the nicest looking sedans ever to wear a Pontiac badge. IMHO, its comparison to the TL-S is akin to comparing the GTO with the G35C....for whatever that is worth.
So long as the quality is at least average, Pontiac looks to have a possible hit on their hands.

Until the TL-S is f/r, comparing it to the G-8 is apples/oranges. Minus the hood scoops, I like it. Does it come w/ pushrod V-8 or the next-gen Northstar?

Pushrod. Nothing wrong with that engine though.

Call me elitist, and I know GM has done amazing things with pushrods, but I still prefer modern OHC engines.

If fuel consumption was poor I'd be there right there with you, but its not. Its quite impressive actually. Getting 25MPG+ in a 400+ HP car is a feat IMO.

It's a car I definitely want to drive when it comes out. On the surface, it looks good, but I'm just curious how they handled the small details. I've got a bajillion GM points that would take a considerable chunk off the price that I'd like to use one day.

I think it looks great. It has obvious design cues from the Tl. If they can make it handle like a BMW then they have a hit. They may need an option to delete the hood scoops for the conservative folks out there.

The TL is slowly no longer having any competition in the FF category, gotta branch out.

Holden has their act together! Only thing I don't understand is the 'ute' craze down there (ie El Camino for modern day).
It was big in 2002 when I last visited ... and still going strong.
Definitely helping Pontiac build credibility in the US market by rebadging the Commodore.

I really like it, and having that old big small block will pay off in the long run in reliability + mpg. Now if only Ford could do the same...

I'm actually surprised by how much I like it. Can't wait to start seeing them on the road...

the reason the G8 and GTO dont look like the rest of crap that GM builds, is because GM didn't actually make them, just bought them and put pontiac badges on it.

GM owns Holden, so they are in fact GM's, just not initially designed for North America.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the performance-for- the-buck difference in the two cars makes it a no brainer and I am an Acura fan true to my heart. However, when I make my next vehicle ourchase I do not want another FWD car and if I can get a loaded G8 with the 362 HP V8 for about $35-40K, what the hell is there to talk about? Nicer fake wood?
I do digress. If Acura builds the rumored 300+HP 3.5L V6 TL with SH-AWD, It will take the win, as long as the looks of the next GEN are a homerun like this current GEN.

Yes, GM has built a lot of crap over the past 2 decades, but they are steadily improving their cars and can't be said of many recent or upcoming efforts.
Read about the new CTS in the new MotorTrend to see the quality they are beginning to introduce into their cars. Hand stiching throughout the interior, metal stamping using processes even superior to that of BMW (known as a leader in that area), direct injection engine v6 producing over 300hp yet using 87 octane. This technology is going to start trickeling down to their other models.
How about their new Lambada platform which is getting rave reviews or their new truck platform with the excellend Escalade and pickups?
The G8 is a great car in a one of the strongest upcoming lineups GM in recent history. Are they at the level of the competition yet, no, but stop saying they are crap as they aren't.
Hell, I haven't ever even owned a GM car or an American car in ages, but I don't like to see unsubstantiated hate.

Toyota is not infallible - look at the complaints about hesitating transmissions and engine sludge. They'll soon feel the pressure of being on top and if history is any guide - they'll find ways to screw up too.

Note that the stitched two tone dash and rims shown in the pics on page 1 will not be on the production model. I think this car will out-do the TL in every respect but interior quality, and it might win there too. GM is finally stepping up and its great

What Would Don Draper Do?
i think it's the nicest gm i've ever seen. i've never been interested in their cars, but this certainly has caught my attention.
but i'm partial to honda/acura so i'd prefer the tl-s. but the current tl-s really isn't that impressive, especially compared to the g8.
