That aside, I'll go with the Vette. The 997 Turbo is ugly.
Funny I wasn't aware the vette had a famous history in racing like porsche does, which is what I was talking about by heritage.

That aside, I'll go with the 911. The Z06 is ugly.

We all have different taste when it comes to cars, how come anytime someone disagrees with your taste they are wrong?

The Z06 is undoubtedly a powerhouse. But brute force speed and laptimes isn't everything. One of the reasons the MX-5 is so popular even though its as slow as a dog is because its a brilliant car to drive - the driver feels at one with the car and the car provides a satisfying driving experience.

Having driven neither the Z06 or the 911TT, I can only base my comments upon what I've read of the two cars in various magazine articles - I'd wager to say that the 911TT is probably more satisfying to drive.

That said, I think comparing a car with a backseat and AWD to an outright brute force machine like the Z06 is a moot point. A GT3 vs. a Z06 is a much better comparison.

If this were a C5 Z06 vs. an older 911, I'd take the Porsche over the Chevy. The C5 was not a very well built car, with poor handling, a cheap interior and poor fit and finish. However, GM has made leaps and bounds to improve their lineup, and the new Vettes are simply amazing. For a standard C6 to be able to hang with a Dodge Viper is something to talk about. And on a side note, the owner of a local bar/pool hall (who is an acquaintance of my GF) owns a C5 Z06 and is a member of a Vette club. On the opening night of the pool hall, a lot of his Vette friends came, and I kid you not there were at least 25 Vettes in the parking lot that night! Some of them were obviously modded, and they were sick. He said one of the guys has a twin turbo pushing 1000 hp.

Race history? Oh whatever. Vettes have raced for years, its just that there wasn't a factory official race car until the C5-R.

Where did I say that if someone disagrees with me they are wrong?

Honestly, putting words in peoples mouth is really annoying.

All I brought up was badge issues, that's it.

If you like the 911 better, fine.....good luck to you buying one.

I agree. The upcoming GT2 would be a far more outright challenge for the ZO6...Then we can truly decide whos the winner...My money is on the GT2...

I agree with the badge issue, as much as I don't like GM as a whole the C6(in particular Z51 and Z06) are tremendous cars and really a great example of what GM is capable of doing. For that matter I think the C5 Z06 was a fantastic car for its time, not what I personally would go for but I can see why so many do.

And I am in a position that if I wanted a 911 I could, instead I am re-investing in my businesses instead of spending on luxury items at 25 years old.

Well that makes sense.

I'm guessing by your UN/avatar that you're

1. In the tire/wheel business?

2. You sell/distribute Hamentashen & Rugala?

The Z06 is the king of the affordable near supercar. I like both cars, but I am a performance guy at heart and wouldn't look at a 997TT. It's not as raw as the Z06 and that's what a sports car should be. Plus you can't beat the soundtrack of the LS7.

So does affordable near supercar = de-laminating roofs? Just wondering?

A lot of people who do not like American cars have been burned in the past and will not go back. I was brought up on foreign cars my entire life, and will probably never own an American car. When I was growing up, the only things that were in the garage were BMW's and Porsches, am I a badge snob? No. A lot of peoples car choices are infleuenced this way, they like what they see their parents driving, and just continue the cycle. Do I think that the ZO6 is a nice car? Yes I do. BUT it would be hard for me to ever own one because of the 'neck that was driving the one in the video. It is that type of person that annoys me to no end.
So because someone annoys you in a vide, that means that it will be hard for you to own the car tha person is driving? Wow. Dont visit streetfire then, because you are bound to find at least one of every car with an annoying person driving it. At that point you will not want toown any cars

I agree with what you say, but i also feel that both cars would probably not be daily drivers, and not driven to theri limit on public roads. At that point either car would be fun.

Yeah, but at that point the price would be a point as well. The GT2 will be more expensive and thus value/dollar comes in big time. For the price of a gt2, you could have a z06, mod the shit outta it, and by a TL-S as a daily driver.

That evo is sick. That is what i am talking about. As a car enthusiast i can respect that evo. With enough money you can make just about any car faster than any car, and this is proof that no car is safe. No doubt that evo is a hot car.

No it means kicking the snot out of the overpriced German and Italian competitors in their own backyard(Nurburgring). You obviously have no clue what you are talking about from your previous postings, so I am going to take this as a clear bias towards American cars.

By the time the GT2 comes out, Chevy will have the "Blue Devil" out. The GT2 is also 110K+ more than a Z06.

I've loved porsches for a long time.. I love the old aircooled ones... .

But I'd have to take a Z06 over a new 997...

It's funny, 'cause the 997 actually doesn't look that bad (at least not as bad as a 996) due to the round headlights, but somehow the designers over in germany screwed up on the 997 turbo... it looks like ass

If we were comparing a 993 to a non-zo6 C5 vette, I'd probably go with the porsche...

The Z06 didn't have that problem as the issue was addressed before the Z06 came out.

He's not bitter, he's right. Those big power evos cost a lot of money. I should know because i'm in the industry. That evo could easily cost over 40 grand in parts and labor if done right. If not, then a few months from now the Z06 will be happy motoring along, while the evo is being rebuilt. Put 40 grand into anything and you can have a monster. Shit, my brother and I are currently building a budget RX-7 with an LS1 swap that will cost us under 11k hopefully. By the time we are said and done, we will have a close to 500 whp all motor RX-7 that runs 9's-10's. And if we opt for a 150 shot, its game over for most cars out there. The point i am trying to make is that with the right idea, money and dedication, you can make any car beat out even the best.

I agree with you.But in the end it all comes down to "the bang for your buck"..Any daily driver car can be modded to hell and back or you can just buy a classic or as some people say "badge snob" car and just float down Sunset Blvd...Its all about what the driver wants from his money...Power and styling with a considerable budget OR an exotic and style icon...

Well said Bigman.

Yeah I'd like to see more about this. The guy that does most of my mechanical work dropped a LS1 into a Miata. Weighs about the same as the Mazda iron block, too, so the legendary Miata weight bias is unaffected.
